But secrets have a way of coming out. When Alec’s do, they might destroy the new life he and Colby have rebuilt together.

REVIEW

Normally I love Jamie Beck's books, but somehow this one didn't quite live up to the previous ones.  The story is really well done and the characters are great, the flow is just not quite there and I had a hard time getting through the book.   For whatever reason, I just couldn't seem to care enough about the characters to want to know what was going to happen next.  There is actually a lot going on in this book and the characters are really well written so it may have just been too deep of a subject matter for the frame of mind I was in when I was reading it.

Book Review - Now That It's You by Tawna Fenske (Free to read AND listen on Kindle Unlimited)

ABOUT THE BOOK

A RITA Award finalist, Mainstream Fiction with a Central Romance.
From USA Today bestselling author Tawna Fenske comes a romantic comedy that will simultaneously tickle your funny bone and tug at your heartstrings.
Talented chef Meg Delaney hasn’t spoken to her cheating ex-fiancé, Matt Midland, for two years. Ditching him at the altar after blurting out “I can’t” instead of “I do” would sour any relationship. But now, just as Meg is finally ready to bury the hatchet, she learns closure is permanently off the menu. And the kicker? Matt’s brother, Kyle, is back in her life, stirring up feelings that are equal parts guilt and lust.
Meg was the best thing that never happened to Kyle. He couldn’t make a move on his brother’s girlfriend—even if Matt didn’t value her nearly enough. The situation is even more complicated now that Meg’s bestselling aphrodisiac cookbook has spawned a legal battle with the Midlands. Maybe he should stay away. But love, like family, plays by its own rules. And the one woman he shouldn’t want might be the only one who’s perfect for him.

REVIEW

This is the first book I've read by the author and I'm charmed.  Having read some of the other reviews I was a little surprised because people who have read other stories by this author were not as impressed but that just makes me more excited to read more.  What I liked about this book was that the characters were real.  They were not always 100% likable because they were real.  I absolutely loved Kyle and I think one of the complaints a lot of readers have with him is that he is loyal to both Meg and his Mom, which is an impossible task since the two characters are at odds with each other throughout the book.  But guess what?  That happens in real life all the time.  Sometimes a person is going to end up looking like a jerk no matter what, which is what happens to Kyle, which makes me like him the more for it.  I recommend this book to anyone looking for something a little bit different that is written well and has real characters.

The Bachelor meets The Runaway Bride in this addictive romance novel about a reality TV producer falling for her would-be star: a Montana heartthrob who wants nothing to do with the show.

Jordan Carpenter thinks she’s finally found the perfect candidate for Jilted, a new dating show about runaway grooms: Luke Elliott, a playboy firefighter who’s left not one but three brides at the altar. The only problem? Luke refuses to answer Jordan’s emails or return her calls. Which is how she ends up on a flight to Montana to recruit him in person. It’s not Manhattan but at least the locals in Lucky Hollow seem friendly . . . except for Luke, who’s more intense—and way hotter—than the slick womanizer Jordan expected.

Eager to put the past behind him, Luke has zero intention of following this gorgeous, fast-talking city girl back to New York. But before he can send her packing, Jordan’s everywhere: at his favorite bar, the county fair, even his exes’ book club. Annoyingly, everyone in Lucky Hollow seems to like her—and deep down, she’s starting to grow on him too. But the more he fights her constant pestering, the more Luke finds himself wishing that Jordan would kick off her high heels and make herself comfortable in his arms.

Review

Lauren Layne is always one of my one click authors.  I can count on her for strong witty characters that wont take any crap, both male and female.  Runaway Groom, the start to the new I Do, I Don't series is no exception.  Runaway Groom is Sweet Home Alabama meets the Bachelor and proves once again you can take the girl out of the town, but you can't take the town out of the girl.  The theme throughout the book that things aren't always what the seem.  Jordan seem like a city girl, but even her friends in the city see through that and know she is too nice to really be one of them.  As for Luke, on paper he is a classic player with three brides left at the alter, but it is clear early on that the guy in front of us doesn't match the guy on paper.  Watching the two of them figure that out for themselves while trying to fight the obvious attraction they have is pure entertainment that I've come to expect from Layne.  Anyone who loves a good romantic comedy will love this story and I look forward to the rest of the series.

Lauren Layne is the New York Times bestselling author of romantic comedies. She lives in New York City with her husband.

Book Revew - You Say It First: A Small-Town Wedding Romance - By Susan Mall

ABOUT THE BOOK

The #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Fool's Gold romances invites you to visit Happily Inc., a wedding destination founded on a fairy tale
Sculptor Nick Mitchell grew up in a family of artists and learned from his volatile father that passion only leads to pain. As he waits on a new commission, he takes a day job as a humble carpenter at a theme wedding venue. The job has its perks—mainly the venue's captivating owner, Pallas Saunders. Although he won't let love consume him, for ecstasy with an expiration date, he's all in.
Pallas adores Weddings in a Box. But if she can't turn the floundering business around, she'll have no choice but cave to her domineering mother and trade taffeta for trust funds working at the family's bank. Then when a desperate bride begs Pallas for something completely out of the box, her irresistible new hire inspires her. Nick knows she doesn't belong behind a desk, and she knows in her heart that he's right—where she really belongs is in his arms.

REVIEW

I've been waiting all summer for the new Fool's Gold books to be released and was pleasantly surprised to find this new Happily Inc. series in its place.  Nick is a character that is mentioned in Fool's Gold and several of the characters from the town are referenced through this book, but this is most definitely a new town with new quirks and new characters.

Pallas is an easy character to instantly love and as she develops through the book it is easy to see why she has so many friends who love her and want to help her.  As soon as she begins to fall for Nick you want that for her just because she deserves it!

Because I was familiar with Nick's family from the previous books I was pretty much instantly rooting for him as well, but I like the fact that Mallory didn't make him 100% instantly likable and perfect.  Nick grows a lot as a character throughout this book and it is fun to see it happen without his knowlege.  I also really liked the way Mallory showed the complex relationship between the brothers, which may not exactly be a typical scenario, but every family can relate to at least to some extent.

Book Review - Irresistible You by Kate Meader

ABOUT THE BOOK

Hot in Chicago series author Kate Meader returns with her all new, scorching Chicago Rebels hockey series, featuring her signature “steamy sex scenes, colorful characters, and riveting dialogue” (Romantic Times). Three estranged sisters inherit their late father’s failing hockey franchise and are forced to confront a man’s world, their family’s demons, and the battle-hardened ice warriors skating into their hearts.

Harper Chase has just become the most powerful woman in the NHL after the death of her father Clifford Chase, maverick owner of the Chicago Rebels. But the team is a hot mess—underfunded, overweight, and close to tapping out of the league. Hell-bent on turning the luckless franchise around, Harper won’t let anything stand in her way. Not her gender, not her sisters, and especially not a veteran player with an attitude problem and a smoldering gaze designed to melt her ice-compacted defenses.

Veteran center Remy “Jinx” DuPre is on the downside of a career that’s seen him win big sponsorships, fans’ hearts, and more than a few notches on his stick. Only one goal has eluded him: the Stanley Cup. Sure, he’s been labeled as the unluckiest guy in the league, but with his recent streak of good play, he knows this is his year. So why the hell is he being shunted off to a failing hockey franchise run by a ball-buster in heels? And is she seriously expecting him to lead her band of misfit losers to a coveted spot in the playoffs?

He’d have a better chance of leading Harper on a merry skate to his bed…

REVIEW

This is the first book in a new series by Kate Meader and I am in love.  There are so many great things going on in this book to love.  Hot romance.  Complicated family relationships.  A woman trying to understand how to fit family in with a career.  As relatable and likable as Harper is, Remy is even more so.  His tough exterior makes him hot but his sensitivity and ambition is what makes him sexy.  Meader has created a world I can't wait to get back to and I recommend to anyone who loves a steamy romance with two well written strong and stubborn characters.

Book Review - Any Dream Will Do by Debbie Macomber

ABOUT THE BOOK

Beloved bestselling author Debbie Macomber returns with a powerful standalone novel about a woman forced to start her life anew, embarking on the most courageous journey of all—to a place where she learns what love and trust really mean.

Shay Benson adored her younger brother, Caden, and that got her into trouble. When he owed money, Shay realized she would do anything to help him avoid the men who were threatening him, and she crossed lines she never should have crossed. Now, determined to start fresh, she finds herself in search of a place to stay and wanders into a church to escape from the cold.

Pastor Drew Douglas adored his wife. But when he lost her, it was all he could do to focus on his two beautiful kids, and his flock came in a distant third. Now, as he too is thinking about a fresh start, he walks through his sanctuary and finds Shay sitting in a pew.

The pair strike up a friendship—Drew helps Shay get back on her feet, and she reignites his sense of purpose—that, over time, turns into something deeper, something soulful, spiritual, and possibly romantic. Even Drew’s two children are taken with this woman who has brought light back into their lives. Perhaps most important, Shay learns to trust again as she, in turn, proves herself trustworthy to her adopted community.

But Caden’s return to town and a disastrous secret threaten to undo the life Shay has tried so hard to rebuild. It will take the utmost courage and faith if she and Drew hope to find healing and open their hearts to a brighter future.

REVIEW

Usually I love Macomber's stories and I look forward to their mix of romance and women's lit.  This one fell a little flat for me.  The whole book just felt overly preatchy to me, so far as an actual preacher as one of the primary characters.  I liked Shay's story and the relationship she has with Drew's kids, I just never really felt Drew's character and that made the whole romance half of the book not work for me at all.  If you love everything you've read by Macomber, you will probably enjoy this book, but if you are just looking for a nice romance, this may not be the book for you.

Book Review - More Than Love (The Barrington Billionaires Book 5)

ABOUT THE BOOK

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Ruth Cardello returns with a hilarious addition to Barrington Billionaire series.

What happens when a normally reserved billionaire tries to be a regular guy and discovers he has a wild side? Grant Barrington is a quiet hero who is about to flex his alpha billionaire muscle.

Viviana Sutton is living in Boston after being swindled by her ex-boyfriend. She’s done with relationships and isn’t looking for forever. Giving in to one naughty, incredibly hot romp with a financially challenged stranger actually makes her feel better until she takes a pregnancy test.

To help his family, he’ll need to be the man she makes him feel like he can be.

For the sake of her baby, she’ll give him a chance to prove what they had was more than sex—and he’s more than just a regular guy.

REVIEW

This is a funny and charming installment in the Barrington Billionaires series.  When Grant decides he wants to see what it is like to become "regular" what we get is a sexy awkward billionaire, and hijinx ensue.  Add some sexy chemistry with Viviana who is in Boston trying to figure out her own stuff without worrying about a man, and a great romantic comedy is well underway.  The book keep-up a quick pace when you add in in an unplanned baby, the mysterious death of Grants brother nearly thirty years ago, and some protective brothers.  This is my favorite installment so far in the series and proof that Ruth Cardello can certainly bring on the funny.

Book Review - Modern Love by Beau North

ABOUT THE BOOK

"Love at first sight wasn't meant for millennials," thinks Alice Aberdeen: art student, recovering addict, David Bowie enthusiast. Alice is among the recently dumped and only wants to keep her nose to the grindstone until she finishes her degree. Her sister has other ideas and sets her up with new-in-town Will Murphy--tall, dark, and aloof. To say it wasn't an instant attraction is an understatement: He finds her abrasive, with her sharp tongue and don't-screw-with-me attitude. She thinks he's excessively reserved, too damn serious. But the more time Alice spends with Will, the more their slow burn begins to thaw her heart. A man of two worlds, half-Irish, half-Indian, Will feels at home with Alice. He soon realizes her tough shell is hiding extensive scar tissue--from her addiction and recovery to her spectacularly bad ex-girlfriend to the loss of her mother. Modern Love isn't a story about love at first sight but learning to love yourself before being able to see the one you love.

REVIEW

This is a refreshing story that reads like a quirky romantic comedy except the main character isn't a sweet girl looking for love.  She is a damaged young woman who has a questionable past but is finally getting her life together and is trying to get through life the best way she can, which isn't always (or even usually) with a smile and happy face and something pleasant to say to everyone.  She is a regular person!  I randomly picked this book up based on the title and description and I am so glad I did.  This will not be for everyone, but anyone who loves a good romance and real characters with actual life experience and sass will love this book and I can't wait to read what Beau North writes next.

Book Review - Suddenly Engaged (A Lake Haven Novel Book 3) - Free on Amazon Unlimited!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Single mother Kyra Kokinos spends her days waiting tables, her nights working on her real estate license, and every spare moment with her precocious six-year-old daughter, Ruby—especially when Ruby won’t stop pestering their grumpy next-door neighbor. At first glance, Dax Bishop seems like the kind of gruff, solitary guy who’d be unlikely to offer a cup of sugar, let alone a marriage proposal. But that’s exactly what happens when Ruby needs life-saving surgery.
Dax showed up in East Beach a year ago, fresh from a painful divorce and looking for a place where he could make furniture and avoid people. Suddenly his life is invaded by an inquisitive munchkin in sparkly cowboy boots—and her frazzled, too-tempting mother. So he presents a practical plan: his insurance will help Ruby, and then they can divorce—zero strings attached.
But soon Kyra and Dax find their engagement of convenience is simple in name only. As their attraction deepens, a figure from the past reappears, offering a way out. Can Kyra and Dax let go so easily—or has love become a preexisting condition?

REVIEW

This was a quick but emotional summer read.  I really loved the relationship between Dax and Ruby and how he cares so much about the little girl that irritates him so much early on.  Kyra and Dax are both well- developed characters as well and I particularly liked the complexity of Dex being more than just a guy coming in to save the day.  It was Kyra and Dax as a couple that fell a little falt for me. I am huge fan of Julia London's other books and the story in this one didn't feel quite as strong as some of the others but was still enjoyable.  I just didn't feel the pull between Kyra and Dax.  I still very much recommend the book, the story is really well done and better than most in the genre, and fans of London will not be disappointed.

Book Review - Turbulent Intrigue (Billionaire Aviators Book 4) by Melody Anne (Free on Kindle Unlimited)

ABOUT THE BOOK

The final novel in bestselling author Melody Anne’s Billionaire Aviators series finds Ace Armstrong back home after years away in the CIA. Faced with the stipulation in his father’s will to find a wife or lose his inheritance, the “black sheep” of the family takes to the skies like his aviator brothers. Soon Ace encounters temptation in the form of the sexy and confident Dakota Forbes, a female pilot who just so happens to be his new sister-in-law’s best friend…and should be off-limits. But Dakota is used to getting what she wants—and she makes it clear she wants Ace.
Ace’s previous line of work is not so easily left behind, and soon someone from his past threatens both him and all he holds dear. As Ace’s relationship with Dakota heats up, he’ll be forced to choose whether to walk away in order to keep her safe or risk it all on the breathless high of passion.

REVIEW

I have been anxiously waiting for this book since I started reading this series.  Melody Anne has done a great job of setting-up the mystery behind what Ace has been up to for all these years.  I was not at all disappointed and very much enjoyed the conclusion to the series.  Dakota is a great match for Ace and the dynamic between them is fun to follow.  I would not recommend reading this if you have not read the previous books in the series, however, all the brothers are sexy alpha piolets, so there is no reason not to go back and read the other books.

Minor spoiler here, but it is mostly given away in the description, I love the fact that the brothers have been so sure the whole series that Ace was upset about the inheritance and that is why he was staying away and had gone down a dark path, and in reality it is only what made him leave and he stayed away because of his involvement in the CIA.

OVERALL RATING - 4.5 STARS!
MATURITY RATING - 18+ a little steamy
