EXCERPT:
“Thank you, Brant,” Sam said to the agent in charge of Nick’s Secret Service detail.
“You’re welcome.” Brant paused before he added, “I know we’ve had this conversation before, Mrs. Cappuano, but I really recommend that you have a detail until we’re certain we’ve contained this threat.”
“I appreciate the recommendation, but I’ll be providing my own security through my team here. I’ll be accompanied by other armed officers everywhere I go. There’s no need to be redundant.”
“Redundant,” Nick muttered with a grunt that would’ve been laughter if the subject matter hadn’t been so grave. “Brant is suggesting added precaution, not redundancy.”
“It’s not necessary,” Sam said, digging in. The last fucking thing she needed was to be escorted around by federal agents. She may as well hang up her badge if that was going to be her reality.
“On that we disagree, my love,” Nick said. “But I’m not going to waste everyone’s time fighting a losing battle. Brant, we appreciate your thoroughness and ask you to keep us posted on the situation.”
“Will do, sir. I’ll wait for you outside.”
When they were alone, Sam looked up at Nick. “I know what you’re going to say, and—”
Nick kissed her hard. “I’ll see you at home later. Let me know if anything pops in the investigation.”
“That’s it? That’s all you’re going to say?”
“That’s it.”
“Hmm.”
“What does that mean?”
“You surprise me.”
He threw his head back and laughed. “Then my day is officially made. I’ve managed to surprise my shrewd, sexy wife.”
“I thought you were going to do the whole alpha-dog lift-your-leg thing and demand I have a detail.”
“Sorry to disappoint you on the leg lifting, babe, but we have a deal. Would I like you to have a detail? Abso-fucking-lutely. Do I understand why you won’t allow it? Yeah, I get it. Doesn’t mean I like it, but I get it.” He kissed her forehead and then her lips. “Now, we’ve both got stuff to do, so let’s get to it so we can get to the best part of the day.”
“Which is?”
His lips were a heartbeat away from hers when he said, “The part where you crawl into bed with me and rub your naked self all over me.”

----------------------------
REVIEW:
This series is truly one of my favorites and Eleven books in Marie Force isn't slowing down at all!  Sam and Nick are still the same hot couple leading their own independent lives while still very much a part of each other.  It is clear that Sam is struggling more with figuring out how her independance fits in with this new world they have created together and that changes will be coming from her most likely sooner rather than later, but at least in this book peace is maintained in the family and everyone is able to continue the delicate balance they've created.

Nick continues to be the Best Husband Ever.  He does everything he can to protect his family.  He listens to him while still being the alpha male.  He is sexy as hell when he's mad.  He's sexy as hell when he's silly.  He's a great Dad.  He cares about his friends.  He's even willing to indulge in a little match making.

If you've been reading this series and were afraid that after ten books it may have lost steam, do not fear, there is plenty of energy left and this book is just as good as any of the earlier books in the series.  One of the great things about Marie and how she writes this series is that is is not formulaic at all, each book feels different from the others, and she finds a way to reinvent the stories and characters each time.

Book Review - Worth the Wait by Lori Foster

ABOUT THE BOOK

Ready or not…love will find a way
Single dad Hogan Guthrie is getting his life back on track, and working as the "barbecue master" at a local diner is just a temporary detour. He and restaurant owner Violet Shaw constantly butt heads…until one night they end up mingling other parts instead. Hogan thought he had the recipe for happiness all figured out. But loyal, carefree Violet is daring him to trust his impulses…and see just how sweet small-town living—and loving—can be.
Nathan Hawley traded his SWAT team credentials for a sheriff's badge, but a gorgeous new neighbor is shaking up his orderly life. Nathan has a hunch there's more to Brooklin Sweet than meets the eye—but given her caution about getting involved, he has his work cut out for him. Still, there's something about the elusive beauty Nathan can't walk away from—and helping her come to terms with her past might pave the way to the future they both secretly long for.

REVIEW

This book read more like a movie script than a novel at times.  There is the A plot with Hogan and Violet and the B plot with Nathan and Brooklin.  And the stories a woven together for a single thread.  For me though, what really made this a great story was the relationship between Hogan and his teenage son Colt.  Colt was definitely the scene stealer for me in this book and I hope he gets his own story in the future.  This book is part of a series, but I didn't read the previous book and had no problem keeping up with the story at all.

Book Review - Every Little Kiss by Maria Adair (Free on Amazon Unlimited)

ABOUT THE BOOK

There’s nothing that single mom Liv Preston won’t do if it means making her six-year-old son smile again. After a heartbreaking two years, her little family is due for some fun in the sun. She just didn’t expect to find it in the big, rugged, Search and Rescue hero next door—who shows her just how exciting, and sexy, life’s adventures can be.
As head of Reno’s K-9 search division, Ford Jamison knows what it takes to make life-and-death decisions on the fly. He doesn’t hesitate, doesn’t do regrets, and has never doubted his instincts—until he makes a promise that turns his world upside down. Desperate for redemption, he returns to Sequoia Lake, only to find himself face-to-face with his past…and the one woman he can’t have. Not when his secret would destroy her—and everything she holds dear.
For Liv, finding love once was a gift. Finding it twice seems impossible, until the moment Ford’s lips meet hers. Love doesn’t always come easy, but when it’s right, it’s worth fighting for…

REVIEW

This is the second book in the Sequoia Lake series, and can easily be read as a stand alone book, however, Liv and Paxton were introduced in the previous book and I had been very intrigued by their story and was glad they were front and center for this book.  I really enjoyed how Paxton's story played out and how Ford's relationship with him played into it as well as the character growth for Liz along with her son getting past the death of her husband and his father.  Notice how I am a paragraph into this review and I haven't even mentioned the romance between Liv and Ford?  That isn't because it wasn't important or well done, it is just because Adair write such interesting characters that there is so much more going on than just an unlikely romance, which is why I love this author.

Anyone looking for a great story with a lot of romance and heart should read this book.

Book Review - HOT VALOR by Lynn Raye Harris

ABOUT THE BOOK

A new standalone romance from New York Times Bestselling Author Lynn Raye Harris. Sexy, action-packed, and thrilling!

They told him she was dead. They lied...

Colonel John "Viper" Mendez is having the second-worst day of his life. Accused of using the Hostile Operations Team to assassinate a foreign official, he's gone from being a respected military black-ops commander to a fugitive in the space of an hour. On the run, hunted, and stripped of his honor, Mendez has nowhere to go--and few people he can trust.

Russian spy Ekaterina "Kat" Kasharin is a carbon copy of the woman Mendez once loved. Twenty-one years ago, Valentina vanished from his life. Kat claims to be her twin--but Kat's lying. Ordered by her superiors in Russian Intelligence to abandon the man she loved--or watch him die--Kat had no choice but to obey.

But twenty-one years is a long time to love a man from afar, and Kat won't stand by as a traitor plans his death--even if it means risking her heart and her life to save him. She can never reveal her true identity--or the secrets she keeps locked away. Secrets he would hate her for. Working with him is strictly business, and she won't let emotions get in the way. But the attraction between them is smoking hot--and it's not long before they're burning up the sheets.

When the truth comes out, the mission implodes. Everything Mendez thought he knew was a lie. He'll have to pull it together though before a deadly foe succeeds in taking away all he loves. By the time he realizes Kat might be most important of all? It could be too late to save her...

The Hostile Operations Team is a covert military Black Ops unit. Their motto is Where None Dare. H.O.T. operators come from all branches of the military. The only criteria for membership: they must be the best of the best!

REVIEW

I have enjoyed this whole series so far, but my favorite has always been the first book, Hot Pursuit.   Something about that story always comes back to me and almost haunts me, making me want to come back to it.  I know that will happen with this one.  It already has.  There is a lot going on in Hot Valor.  To start off with, technically this can be read as a stand along.  I'm sure you would be able to follow along and enjoy it just fine if you had never read any of the previous books in this series.  However you'll only get about twenty percent of the potential enjoyment of the book if you do.  The main character, Colonel John Mendez, has been a large part of ever book in the series so far.  He is a character we've come to know well and have looked forward to getting to know better for quite some time.  I wasn't disappointed in the least.  He may be a bit older than the typical hero in these books, but he isn't old by any stretch of the imagination, and he still brings the sexy in a big way.  Kat is the perfect match for him and their relationship throughout the book is truly electrifying.

But wait, there is more.  This book felt like it was truly a gift to the readers of this series because we are able to learn so much more information about several characters who have been reoccurring throughout.  I have secretly had a bit of a book crush on sometimes villain, sometimes friend of the team Ian Black, and he plays a huge role in this book.  I only hope this is the beginning of what we learn about him.

Bottom line, if you are a fan of the HOT series, this is a must read.  If you love strong alpha male military types, but have never read the HOT books before, start at the beginning of the series and you'll thank me when you catch-up.

Book Review - Secrets of the Tulip Sisters by Susan Mallery

ABOUT THE BOOK

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Daughters of the Bride comes the charming tale about the problem with secrets, the power of love and the unbreakable bond between sisters
Kelly Murphy's life as a tulip farmer is pretty routine—up at dawn, off to work, lather, rinse, repeat. But everything changes one sun-washed summer with two dramatic homecomings: Griffith Burnett—Tulpen Crossing's prodigal son, who's set his sights on Kelly—and Olivia, her beautiful, wayward and, as far as Kelly is concerned, unwelcome sister. Tempted by Griffith, annoyed by Olivia, Kelly is overwhelmed by the secrets that were so easy to keep when she was alone.
But Olivia's return isn't as triumphant as she pretends. Her job has no future, and ever since her dad sent her away from the bad boy she loved, she has felt cut off from her past. She's determined to reclaim her man and her place in the family…whether her sister likes it or not. For ten years, she and Kelly have been strangers. Olivia will get by without her approval now.
While Kelly and Olivia butt heads, their secrets tumble out in a big hot mess, revealing some truths that will change everything they thought they knew. Can they forgive each other—and themselves—and redefine what it means to be sisters?
Told with Mallery's trademark heart and humor, the Tulip Sisters are in for the most colorful summer of their lives…

REVIEW

This is a class Susan Mallory story.  The main story follows Kelly Murphy, but the reader is also able to see bits of her sister Olivia and her best friend Helen's lives as well.  Ultimately there are three love stories and lots of character development and drama that ensues throughout.  If you have read one of Mallery's books previously, you know what to expect and if you liked those books, you will like this one.  If you are not familiar with the author, you are in for a real treat.  She does a great job of weaving three different story lines together and making each one compelling on their own while still keeping one coherent thread throughout.   Ultimately this story is about family relationships as much as it is about romantic ones and learning how to navigate life with some family members that you probably wouldn't have ever chosen as friends by your side.

Book Review - Falling For Her Brothers Best Friend by Noelle Adams

ABOUT THE BOOK

After too many bad decisions in romance, Emma is going on a man-fast. For the next six months, she's fasting from men. No sex. No dating. No soulful gazes. No fond memories of her first crush. She's going to spend the time focusing on her career, getting in touch with herself, and helping her two best friends with the launch of their new tea room. No men.

And that includes her brother's best friend, Noah Hart, who has just returned to their hometown.

She doesn't want Noah anyway. He might be even hotter than he was before, but he's not a nice guy anymore. He's made a fortune by acting ruthless in business, and the last thing he's looking for is small-town domestic life. He doesn't even want to be in town again, but a sick grandmother guilted him into it. Then he has nerve to not even recognize Emma when he sees her again. Maybe it's been seven years, but a decent guy would remember his best friend's little sister.

Noah is not a decent guy. Anyway, Emma is on a man-fast. And she doesn't want Noah.

At all.

REVIEW

Easily relatable, this story takes the typical falling for your friend's brother story and builds on it with well-written characters.  The story flows easily and I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a quick read with some depth.

Book Review - Blue Hollow Falls (Blue Hollow Falls Series Book 1) by Donna Kauffman

ABOUT THE BOOK

From her free-spirited mother, Sunny Goodwin learned the value of peace, love, and Jerry Garcia. The inheritance from the father she never knew? That’s a little more complicated...

Sunny never expected to find herself owning a centuries old silk mill in the shadow of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains . . . or becoming a half-sister to a ten-year-old named Bailey. Once the shock subsides, she plans to cash in and head back home. But the overgrown greenhouse she finds on the property calls out to the gardener in her, and she senses Bailey’s need for nurturing too...

And someone else is making it hard for Sunny to leave: Sawyer Hartwell, an Iraq War hero who wants to make the old mill a creative hub for the artisans of Blue Hollow Falls . . . and wants Sunny to share his vision, and his life. But sexy as this ex-soldier may be, she’s not sure she’s ready to give love a chance...

“We all know where there's Donna Kauffman, there's a rollicking, sexy read chock‑full of charm and sparkle. Kauffman's characters are adorably human and so very magnetic.” —USAToday.com

REVIEW

I can honestly say I've watched soap operas with fewer plot twists in the family tree than there are going on in this book, but somehow Donna Kauffman manages to do more than just pull it off, it turns out fantastic.  The character development in this story is exceptional and as the story progresses each character sneaks into your heart just a little bit more.  While I absolutely loved Sunny and Sawyer, I really fell in love with Seth and I can not wait until the next book and get to read his story.

Book Review - The Wedding Date Bargain by Mira Lyn Kelly

ABOUT THE BOOK

When Sarah Cole finds herself in Chicago with two months to kill before her New York promotion goes through, she decides it’s time to take care of a few things—like the inconvenient issue of her virginity. Sarah knows the right guy for the job too: Max, the notorious lady’s man she’s been crushing on since college.
Max Brandt is all for a fling, just not with Sarah. She’s way too good for him. He walked away from her once, but it wasn’t easy.
Things are different now, and the plan is so simple. There’s no way either of them would do something as silly as fall in love…

REVIEW

Myra Lynn Kelly is one of those authors that if one of her books is on my TBR list I know I can pick-up and will easily get sucked into.  The Wedding Date Bargain was no exception.  I totally fell for Sarah and Max as a couple and the whole group of friends and really didn't want the book to end.  This was definitely one of those times where I wished this was the second book in an established ten book series, but who am I kidding, I'd be through that in two weeks easily and still have the end of series blues times ten.  My point is that the story is great but the characters are amazing and I highly recommend this book.  I actually did immediately text my friend and tell her she needed to read the first one and then immediately move on to this one, which I typically do not do.

Blog Tour/Review - I Knew You Were Trouble by Lauren Layne

A feisty beauty must choose between winning back Mr. Right
or giving in to Mr. Wrong.

I KNEW YOU WERE TROUBLE
Oxford Series #4
Lauren Layne
Releasing June 13, 2017
Loveswept

New York City’s hottest bachelors are stirring up trouble in this fun, flirty Oxford Novel, as a love triangle forces a feisty beauty to choose between winning back Mr. Right or giving in to Mr. Wrong.

Taylor Carr has it all—a sleek job in advertising, a stunning Manhattan apartment, and the perfect man to share it with: Bradley Calloway. Even after Bradley dumps her for a co-worker on move-in day, Taylor isn’t worried. She’ll get her man eventually. In the meantime, she needs a new roommate. Enter Nick Ballantine, career bartender, freelance writer—and longtime pain in Taylor’s ass. Sexy in a permanent five-o’clock-shadow kind of way, Nick knows how to push Taylor’s buttons, as if he could see right through to the real her.

Nick’s always trying to fix people, and nobody could use a good fixing more than Taylor. Sure, she’s gorgeous, with mesmerizing silver eyes, but it’s her vulnerability that kills him. Now that they’re shacking up together, the chemistry is out of control. Soon they’re putting every part of their two-bedroom apartment to good use. Then Taylor’s ex comes crawling back to her, and Nick figures she’ll jump at the chance to go back to her old life—unless he fights for the best thing that ever happened to him.

Book Review

This is another outstanding book by Lauren Layne.  The Oxford series has been full of wonderful strong and spunky women, this story is no exception.  The sexual tension between Taylor and Nick has been an undercurrent even in earlier books but it is off the charts in this story and is very well written.  This is not a typical hate-turns-to-love story and the characters are well developed and compelling.  This is probably one of my favorite books so far by Layne, if not my favorite, and highly recommend to anyone who loves smart romance books.

Lauren Layne is the New York Times bestselling author of over a dozen romantic comedies.

A former e-commerce and web marketing manager from Seattle, Lauren relocated to New York City in 2011 to pursue a full-time writing career.

ABOUT THE BOOK

The Proposal meets Two Weeks Notice in Ann Marie Walker's new standalone romantic comedy, Black Tie Optional, which New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Probst calls, "a fun, sexy romp that will keep every reader entertained!"
Everything about Coleman Grant III oozes power and sex. And not the perfunctory kind either, but the sheet clawing, heart stopping, gasping for air after you’ve screamed so loud you can’t breathe kind. From his dark wavy hair that stands in an artfully rumpled mess, to the blue eyes that sear your skin, to his full, sensual lips - on the surface he’s pure perfection.
Too bad he's an asshole. An arrogant, uptight corporate raider hell bent on destroying the environment one species at a time.
Everything about Olivia Ramsey screams hippie humanitarian. From her blond hair tied in a sloppy bun, to her faded jeans with the Bonnaroo patch sewn on the thigh, to her combat boots still splattered with mud from the previous day’s site visit.
So it makes perfect sense that they would get married. In Vegas. Stone-cold sober.
Cole needs a wife. Olivia needs to save an endangered species. But what starts as a marriage of convenience soon turns into a battle of wills and sexual tension. Love is a game, and Olivia and Cole are ready to win.

REVIEW

Opposites attract is definitely one of my favorite romance tropes.  Olivia and Cole both start out a bit cardboard as far as characters go, almost too much of a caricature of the type they are supposed to be, but as the story progresses the characters really develop and the story becomes more and more realistic.  This is the first book of Walker's that I have read and I find that I really enjoy her style and the way she uses humor in her books, so I do look forward to reading more stories by her.

***************************

Diana:

Who ever said that money fixes everything? Well, I can tell you firsthand that they were dead wrong. I was born an only child to one of the wealthiest families in America, and all I've ever felt was loneliness and a sense that I may have been adopted. I don't fit in. I never have. When all my mother wanted was for me to marry into another prestigious family, I wanted an education and to just be...normal. It's not that I don't appreciate having a roof over my head and everything my heart desires. Problem is, what I really want is something money can't buy. I want to be loved for who I am and not how much money my father acquired before his death.

At the age of twenty-four, I'm still a virgin, and a freak among my peers because of my fascination with all things history and literature, my bad hair, my bizarre eyes, and my complete lack of style. When my mother wants to send me away to a house party on a little-known island nation, I jump at the opportunity. Hardly anybody from the outside gets invited to Rubare Virgina, and it's rich in history. Sure, I realize that she's aiming high and trying to marry me off to some pompous, obscenely wealthy prince, but I've decided I'd resolve that problem at the masquerade ball at the beginning of my stay on the island.

I'd lose my virginity to the first guy who would have me, making myself ineligible to be any royal's wife on Rubare Virgina. Then I could just enjoy my stay in my own nerdy sort of way. Pretty simple. Until it becomes...complicated.

Prince Niccolino is nothing like I thought he would be. He's real. He's honest. And he's hotter than Florida in July. He's everything a woman could ever want or need, and he's loyal to those he cares about and his country. But there's just one tiny problem: I'm no longer the virgin he needs to marry. I'd forfeited my opportunity for more with Prince Nic when I'd given away my virginity at the masquerade ball to a complete stranger. Could it be that I've finally found my Prince and my heart's desire only to have it torn away because of my one stupid indiscretion??

Like the first novella trilogy, Taken by a Trillionaire, these novellas are escapism fantasy. If you are looking for a historically accurate representation of a monarchy or a serious depiction of how royals maintain their bloodlines, neither trilogies are for you. If you love larger than life characters and fun storylines that take you to exotic places with sexy alpha men, then welcome to our imaginary kingdoms. The men are insanely rich, the traditions are potentially deadly, and the sex will leave you craving a night on this dark isle.

REVIEW

I am continuing to love the island of Rubare Virgina and was happy to be re-introduced to the author J.S. Scott through this series.  I had previous read her Vampire Coalition series years ago and had enjoyed that but had not kept up with her more recent work.  Virgin for the Prince was an easy and quick fairytale romance.  Due to the nature of being a novella, the story moved quickly and didn't have a lot of time for development, but the characters were still written well enough to connect to them and understand them.  I'm already looking up some of J.S. Scott's other books while I wait for the last book in this trilogy.

Book Review - It Had to be You by Melissa Kate

ABOUT THE BOOK

Emma Wyatt has had enough of her ex-best friend and his ladykiller ways. The sweet boy from her youth had been replaced with a serial womaniser.
Oliver didn't intend to be coupled with Emma, but when it came to Emma Wyatt, he felt the need to be a knight in shining armor.
Now, the whole town knows and Emma is livid. She wants to wring his neck.
A heated argument incites a fiery moment of passion, and the pair find themselves fighting an unlikely attraction they never saw coming.
But a dreadful secret could tear them apart forever.

REVIEW

This is a refreshing romantic comedy.  The story seems like a simple hate turns to love story, but there are additional complicated layers in the story and the characters that make the entire book feel more substantial yet still a quick and easy read.  Emma and Ollie are strong characters and what I love about Ollie is that he is a strong alpha male without being dominating.  The dynamic between the two feels real and helps the overall flow of the book.  I look forward to reading more from the author.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Melissa Kate is a self confessed book-a-holic who lives in a small town along the coast in sunny South Africa. She writes contemporary romance with quirky characters and witty banter; a true romantic at heart, she loves the moment of falling in love. Her pet Beagle and maniacal lovebird keep her company while writing and often inspire senseless moments in her stories. When she’s not furiously tapping away on her laptop, Melissa can be found laughing away with her husband (who happens to be her pre-school sweetheart... you just know there's a story there) or scouring online stores for additions to her ever growing stiletto collection (ehm addiction). She balances her day job and conjuring up new romantic tales with a local personal blog with arb ramblings about her life in Durban.
