Book Review - Virgin for the Trillionaire by Ruth Cardello

ABOUT THE BOOK

They’re at it again! Ruth Cardello, JS Scott, and Melody Anne come together for another royal novella trilogy. This is the first novella of a three novella set. Check the dates below for release dates on the second and third novella.

Escape with three new princes as only these NYT’s bestselling authors could write them.

Virgin for the Trillionaire: Ruth Cardello (April 25, 2017)
Virgin for the Prince: J.S. Scott (June  6, 2017)
Virgin to Conquer: Melody Anne (July 3, 2017)

The wild ride begins with Virgin for the Trillionaire:

Prince Ballasare Stephan Demande needs a bride before his thirtieth birthday or he’ll lose his crown. Unlike their barbarian twin island, Rubare Virgina’s royal family is above kidnapping and murdering as a means of choosing their queens. Historically, they’ve cultivated their own selection, ensuring the purity and perfection of each. Prince Ballasare wants more, so he comes up with a plan. It’s genius really. He invites three hundred of the most beautiful and intelligent virgins from around the world to his island under the guise of attending a conference. Those who are willing to stay and participate in a series of tests are offered a chance to win one million dollars. He can only imagine the joy that the woman he chooses will feel when she discovers he and his title are the real prize.

Jessica Quincy is at a crossroads career wise. She hadn’t expected anyone to actually read her blog posts about her lonely life. She certainly hadn’t expected Virgin Territory to go viral. But who can stay a virgin forever? And what does a woman do when she’s no longer what she’s made a career out of writing about? She takes a risk, that’s what. Jessica attends a conference that promises to end with one participant winning a million dollars. Any ex-virgin could start over with that kind of money.

She makes him laugh.
He scares, infuriates, and totally turns her on.

Unfortunately, on Rubare Virgina, being chosen by a sexy prince can have deadly consequences if you haven’t updated your blog.

Like the first novella trilogy, Taken by a Trillionaire, these novellas are escapism fantasy. If you are looking for a historically accurate representation of a monarchy or a serious depiction of how royals maintain their bloodlines, neither trilogies are for you. If you love larger than life characters and fun storylines that take you to exotic places with sexy alpha men, then welcome to our imaginary kingdoms. The men are insanely rich, the traditions are potentially deadly, and the sex will leave you craving a night on this dark isle.

REVIEW

Virgin for a Trillionaire is a great next installment to the Trillionaire series, but can easily be read as a stand-alone. The story is the Bachelor meets enchanted and is a great mix of passion, hinjinx, and humor following Prince Ballasare and Jessica on their journey towards romance. I am looking forward to reading the other installments in this multi-author series.

About Ruth Cardello

Ruth Cardello was born the youngest of 11 children in a small city in northern Rhode Island. She spent her young adult years moving as far away as she could from her large extended family. She lived in Boston, Paris, Orlando, New York--then came full circle and moved back to Rhode Island. She now happily lives one town over from the one she was born in. For her, family trumped the warmer weather and international scene.

She was an educator for 20 years, the last 11 as a kindergarten teacher. When her school district began cutting jobs, Ruth turned a serious eye toward her second love- writing and has never been happier. When she's not writing, you can find her chasing her children around her small farm, riding her horses, or connecting with her readers online.

Book Review - Feels Like the First Time (Destiny Bay) by Maria Adair

ABOUT THE BOOK

What's wrong with a little white lie?

There are a lot of things Ali Marshal doesn't do: pink anything, a day without chocolate, and Hawk, her sister's ex-husband. Sure, he's a sexy former NHL star who can make her pulse pound with just a wink. But he belonged to Bridget first. And no matter how long she's had a crush on him, how great he's always been to her dad, or that her sister is engaged to someone else now and Ali needs a date to their engagement party, she can't give in to temptation. Can she?

It's been years since his disastrous marriage crashed and burned, and Bradley Hawk has finally moved on. So when Bridget blows back into town with her new fiancé, throwing the engagement party of the year, he could care less . . . until Ali tells one little lie that lands him smack dab in a fake relationship. After one promise to be Ali's date and two of the hottest kisses he's ever had, Hawk can't deny how much he wants her. But what happens when this fauxmance starts to feel very, very real?

REVIEW

Every time I pick-up a Marina Adair book I am always blown away with how well she develops her characters, setting, and story.  Most authors can do one and maybe two of those well, but Adair finds a way to do all three every time.  This book is no exception.  Hawk and Ali are very well developed and even the secondary characters like Bridget are well developed and not just one dimensional.  I had read the previous book in this series and had forgotten how much I love this town, which I know is all due to Adiar's ability to describe and write about it. I recommend this to anyone looking for an easy summer read with a little substance and a great love story.

Book Review - My Kind of You (A Trillium Bay Novel Book 1) by Tracy Brogan

ABOUT THE BOOK

Wall Street Journal bestselling author Tracy Brogan is back with a sweet, hilarious series about family, forgiveness, and what it means to go back home.
Emily Callaghan never expected to spend another summer on Wenniway Island. Yet here she is, back in her quaint northern Michigan hometown of Trillium Bay, divorced, flat broke, and dragging along her precocious twelve-year-old. It’s a simple arrangement: Emily, a house flipper, will renovate one of her grandmother’s rental properties in exchange for a much-needed loan. Once a wild child, the reformed Emily also hopes to remodel her reputation and show her family she’s all grown up.
But coming home is never simple. Emily’s dad is more distant than ever. Her younger sister is dating a much older man, and Emily’s worried it’s a mistake. The cottage remodel grows increasingly daunting. And then there’s handsome out-of-towner Ryan Taggert…
Ryan has his own family drama. A smart, ambitious land developer, he’s come to Wenniway to rescue his father from the grips of a new girlfriend and protect their family business. But he’s quickly distracted by gorgeous, witty Emily Callaghan.
There’s no denying the attraction between Emily and Ryan. But will their conflicting interests destroy any chance at love? Or will Emily finally get the chance to rebuild her life—and repair her heart?

REVIEW

I loved the fit of Emily and Ryan as a couple.  They are both real and easy to relate with.  For me the real star of the book is her sassy twelve-year-old daughter Chloe, who was at times the best source of reason in the chaotic adult world Emily is living in.  I would recommend this to anyone who loves a heartwarming story full of cleaver wit and a few quirky characters.

Book Review - Walk of Shame by Lauren Layne

ABOUT THE BOOK

Description

REVIEW

At first I thought this was just going to be "Paris Hilton meets stuffy NY Lawyer and falls in love" but the book turned out to be so much  more than that.  Georgianna has a lot more substance than I was expecting and while Andrew's character wasn't developed completely, he turned out to be likable and sexy.  This is a cute read about opposites that really do attract and I recommend it to anyone looking for something light and fun.

Book Review - If Not For You

ABOUT THE BOOK

An emotionally stirring novel that shows how obstacles can be overcome, differences can be strengths, and sometimes a choice can seem wrong even though it’s absolutely right

If not for her loving but controlling parents, Beth Prudhomme might never have taken charge of her life and moved from her native Chicago to Portland, Oregon, where she’s reconnected with her spirited Aunt Sunshine and found a job as a high school music teacher. If not for her friend Nichole, Beth would never have met Sam Carney, although first impressions have left Beth with serious doubts. Sam is everything Beth is not—and her parents’ worst nightmare: a tattooed auto mechanic who’s rough around the edges. Reserved and smart as a whip, Beth isn’t exactly Sam’s usual beer-drinking, pool-playing type of woman, either.

But if not for an awkward setup one evening, Beth might never have left early and been involved in a car crash. And if not for Sam—who witnessed the terrifying ordeal, rushed to her aid, and stayed with her until help arrived—Beth might have been all alone, or worse. Yet as events play out, Sam feels compelled to check on Beth almost daily at the hospital—even bringing his guitar to play songs to lift her spirits. Soon their unlikely friendship evolves into an intense attraction that surprises them both.

Before long, Beth’s strong-willed mother, Ellie, blows into town spouting harsh opinions, especially about Sam, and reopening old wounds with Sunshine. When shocking secrets from Sam’s past are revealed, Beth struggles to reconcile her feelings. But when Beth goes a step too far, she risks losing the man and the life she’s come to love.

REVIEW

I loved the story with Beth and Sam and usually I find it a bit convenient that in books characters somehow fall in love with each other over a few days or maybe weeks and while I know that can happen, I don't feel like it is the norm that your average romance novel would tell us it is.  In this case though it felt right and made sense.  The story is written in such a way that it doesn't feel convenient to tell the story easier and actually works with the characters.

Sunshine and Peter... well I didn't love this couple as much.  I didn't connect with Sunshine like I did with the other characters and I just didn't really like Peter.  I didn't love this as the "b plot" of the book.

I did like seeing the characters of Rocco and Nichole from A Girl's Guide to Moving On and thought they were integrated well for new readers who haven't read the previous book as well as new ones.

Overall when I got to the end of the book I felt positive and optimistic and as always I am in awe of Macomber's ability to tell a good heartwarming story.

Book Review - Hot Addiction by Lynn Raye Harris

ABOUT THE BOOK

A new standalone romance from New York Times Bestselling Author Lynn Raye Harris. Sexy, action-packed, and thrilling!

Tell Dex I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have let it go this far. I’ve thought for a while that marrying him wasn’t right, that I’m not the woman for him—I should have been brave enough to say so. He deserves more.

When Dex “Double Dee” Davidson was abandoned at the altar by the woman he loved, he threw himself into his military career, training hard enough to get accepted into the elite Black Ops unit known as HOT. The love he felt for Annabelle Quinn burned to ash in the face of her betrayal—so when she crashes back into his life and begs him to save her, he has no problem laughing in her face.

Blackmailed into jilting Dex and forced into an abusive marriage, Annabelle never thought she’d escape the hell of the last five years. But her husband died a month ago and she’s finally free. Except she isn’t. Someone claims that Eric stole a fortune—and they want it back. If she doesn’t return it within twenty-four hours, she’ll be dead—and so will her young daughter. With time running out, Annabelle has no one to turn to. No one except Dex.

When Dex learns that Annabelle’s husband committed treason against the US by selling a top secret military project to the Russians, he has no choice but to get involved. He’ll protect Annabelle and her child, and he’ll find out who’s threatening her. But he won’t fall for her intoxicating sensuality ever again. And if he discovers the secret she’s been hiding from him? It’ll be game over for good…

Another explosive, high-octane thrill-ride from New York Times bestselling author Lynn Raye Harris!

REVIEW

This was another HOT (pun intended) story by Lynn Raye Harris.  The story was fast paced and a quick and easy read.  The characters were well developed and the overall story in the series progressed forward some as well.  Anyone who hasn't read the series up to this point would easily be able to keep-up and Harris does a nice job of briefly introducing the supporting characters from past books without it feeling forced.  If you are a fan of the series already, this book with not disappoint, and if you like books about sexy military men saving the world and falling in love along the way, this book (and series!) is for you.

Ten Random Things About Lynn You Might Find Cool:

1. I'm a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. This makes my husband a HODAR (Husband of DAR), which I find hilarious.

2. I used to ride show jumpers when I was a teenager. Other teens were going out with their friends while I was riding horses every evening after school.

3. I'll try any kind of food once, unless it's really weird (like scorpion-on-a-stick). I have eclectic tastes and I believe life is an adventure! Why not try the food, right?

4. I got married in Germany and I have two anniversaries. The first is the civil ceremony, performed by the Burger Meister, and the second is the church wedding, which was the next day.

5. I used to live in Hawaii. This was every bit as cool as it sounds.

6. Though I lived in Hawaii, I am not a water sport kind of person. I do not surf. I do not snorkel. I do not like sticking my toes in an ocean in which sharks also swim. I did it on occasion, but it's not my favorite thing to do. I'd rather look at the water from the beach.

Book Review - A Girl's Guide to Moving On

ABOUT THE BOOK

REVIEW

I have actually reread this book since the first time I read it a year ago, that is how much I enjoyed the story.  The characters are very well developed and Macomber does a great job weaving Nichole and Leanne's stories together that make them feel very connected, even though they are two different love stories.  Nikolai actually ends up being my favorite character in the book but all of them are wonderful in their own way (except Jake!!).  This is an uplifting and inspiring read and I recommend it to anyone who loves romance and stories about self-confident women.

Book Review - Ask Me Again Book 1 by Kara Kinsley

ABOUT THE BOOK
This is Book 1 of the 3 book "Ask Me Again" series.

Devin Grant had his future all figured out. Fight fires in his hometown until he could save the money to go off to college and become an Arson Investigator. He was going to leave his small town behind for something bigger and better. Until someone from his past walked back into his life.
Tricia Green had dreamed of leaving her run of the mill small town for as long as she could remember. All she wanted was to get away from the dead end life she lived with her alcoholic mother and never present father. More than anything, she wanted to head off to college and pursue her dream of being a physical therapist. But fate had other plans. Plans that would change her life forever.

REVIEW
Lately, I have been thinking a lot about first kisses, because that is what you do when you spend your time watching Netflix shows based on YA novels.  In every good first kiss, there is a moment where you're taken aback that it's really happening.  One moment you're hesitant, terrified at everything that could go wrong and what is at risk but thoroughly excited about the prospect of what could go right. Then, the air leaves the room, and all you have is closed eyes and the warmth of his lips and his smell and your complete, consuming need.  The warmth blossoming in your belly while you're lost in your private universe.

This book was nothing like that.   There is a first kiss, sure.  Reuniting with a lost friend.  The feeling that it might be meant to be, but you don't want to lose the best friend you ever had.  The characters are likable and responsible and mature.  Even, though it ended in a CLIFFHANGER FOR REALS GUYS THIS IS ONE OF THOSE FREE TO START GET SUCKED IN AND SURELY YOU'LL PAY $4 FOR THE NEXT ONE AND THEN THE NEXT ONE KIND OF CLIFFHANGER, I may not keep reading.  For all the warmth and the tenderness, it should have checked the hell out of my boxes, but it just fell flat for me.

OVERALL RATING - 3 STARS!
MATURITY RATING - 16+, but mostly because of the terrifying drug and alcohol content.  But I am not your kids' parent.  Maybe that is what you do.  Show them books like these and scare them straight.

Book Reivew - Helping Helper by Tara C. Allred

ABOUT THE BOOK
“He’s not a friend, he’s my husband. And he’s gone.”
En route to Salt Lake City, intending to start over, their car breaks down near the struggling mining town of Helper, Utah—and then Tony leaves Kora behind.

Alone, broken and angry, especially that her family was right in their judgment against Tony, Kora decides to stay in Helper and aid in it’s art-centered transformation.

But in working to save her new home, Kora learns first love only happens once.

For a second chance at love, a much greater risk is required.

REVIEW
Not that I don't appreciate the very adult romance novels we normally review, but Helping Helper was a breath of fresh air.  With a well paced plot and characters you don't mind hanging around with, it is an all round good read with enough romance to keep things interesting.  I always appreciate an author who can put as much passion into a grazing touch as a super steamy scene, which Tara C. Allred manages well.

New beginnings are rarely clean or straightforward, and Allred doesn't take it easy on her heroine.   We get to see the full cycle of grief, exploration, forgiveness and growth.  The romance genre sometimes forgets the finer points of relationships and relationship building.  It's not all "I've never felt like this before."  Sometimes, it's "OMG, I have felt just like this before, and it's terrifying."  From that perspective, I found Helping Helper very satisfying.

There were only a handful of times I was removed from the story namely anytime a silk shirt is mentioned or anytime I looked at the title.  I try not to judge a book by it's cover, but ever since Jon McLaughlin's Promising Promises I have been averse to the present participle / noun combination.

Book Review - HOT Witness (Hostile Operations Team #9.5) by Lynn Raye Harris

ABOUT THE BOOK
Eva Gray has a secret. Eight years ago, her sister entered the Brothers of Sin Motorcycle Club and never came back. Seven years ago, she vowed revenge, even if she had to change everything about her life to do it—her look, her name, her face.

Now she’s stalking the Brothers and looking for weakness. She’s close to achieving her goal, so close she can taste it. But a prominent federal judge is now in ICU, and Eva’s the only one who can prove the club hired the hit.

Jake Ryan was once a Brother, but he got his life together when a judge gave him a choice: prison or the military. He took the military and he’s never looked back. Now, as a member of the lethal Hostile Operations Team, he’s accustomed to working on the side of justice.

So when Declan MacKenzie comes to Washington DC and asks him to infiltrate his old gang to protect a witness and get evidence, he doesn’t hesitate to do his duty. But little does he suspect that Eva Gray is a girl he once knew or that she’s on a mission of her own. A mission that could see them both dead before they’re through.

When the warrior meets the vengeful virgin, nothing and no one is safe…

REVIEW
For those of you waiting patiently for book 10 in the Hostile Operations Team series, Lynn Raye Harris provides you a short and sweet novella featuring new characters in the world of the MacKenzie Family.  The MacKenzie family series was originated by Lilliana Hart who provides the forward for today's review.

Crafting intense, believable romance is tough in a novella.  My kindle clocked me in at about an hour of total read time,  a little longer than an episode of This is Us, which always tugs on the heart strings.  It's not like the writers of This is Us are introducing new characters, giving us backstory, giving us a climax (or, ahem, several), and a conclusion in that time frame.  Given the constraints, Lynn Raye Harris does an admirable job crafting characters who have actual motivations and emotions.  As an intro reader to the HOT series, it does make want to read more of the author's work even if the description of this work includes the phrase "the warrior meets the vengeful virgin."

The characters tick some boxes for me.  My red blooded American heart absolutely does flip flop at the idea of a super jacked solider with commitment to ideals like freedom looking at me like he wants all of me.  Tattoos are hot, and so is Jax Teller...I mean Ryder Carsen...I mean Jake Ryan.  Man, with all the sandy blonde bikers running around, I am amazed I have not taken up a full fledged fantasy MC life.  The heroine, Eva, is  tough and artsy and motivated, and spoiler, wears granny panties.  The story has surprisingly feminist take on consent and masturbation, though I wouldn't share it with my daughter as some kind of roadmap on healthy relationships.

The love scenes do have a build up, but in some cases feel like the story serves the love scenes instead of the love scenes being an integral part of the story.  As always, that is my primary gripe, but considering the novella format, it is understandable.

Book Review - What it Takes: A Kowalski Novel by Shannon Stacey

ABOUT THE BOOK

Revisit all of your Kowalski favorites while falling in love with a brand-new romance in this reunion novel from New York Times bestselling author Shannon Stacey
Laney Caswell is looking for a change. A decade's worth of less-than-happy matrimony behind her, she wants peace—movies, books and, best of all, a new job at the Northern Star Lodge in Whitford, Maine. Spending the summer living in a camper is her chance to rediscover what makes her happy, and a perfect transition to her new life.
Being a paramedic in Whitford is nothing like Ben Rivers's city life, but when Josh Kowalski offers him the job, the lure of his hometown is too much to resist. Also too much to resist: Laney Caswell. Ben always thought he'd have a wife and kids, a happy family like the Kowalskis have all built, but he never made time in his life. Now he's found a woman who draws him like no other and helps him dream again—and the last thing she wants is a husband.
When the annual Kowalski family camping trip is moved to the Northern Star, both Ben and Laney are surrounded by the kind of happiness they've always wanted but never had. It just might be theirs—if they can put aside the past and reach for it together.

REVIEW

This story works as a stand-alone, but is meant just as much as a love letter to the fans of the Kowalski books.  Going into the book I honestly had mediocre expectations, expecting it to be 50% catching-up with the old characters and 50% focusing on the central characters.  I was pleasantly surprised at how Shannon Stacey managed to get the reader caught up in the lives of the rest of the family and still keep the focus on Laney and Ben.  The secondary story focusing on a couple from one of the previous books, Sean and Emma, was also done well and added to the overall story and my enjoyment of the book.  As I started this review, this book could be read as a stand-alone, although you (like Laney) might start to get confused by who all the other characters in the book are, but the previous books in this series are well worth reading if you have a spare month or two...

Book Review - Addicted to You by Renita Pizzitola

ABOUT THE BOOK

In a sweet, sexy novel for fans of Abbi Glines, Monica Murphy, and Christina Lauren, the author of Just a Little Kiss tells the story of two friends who each want more—and the love triangle that's holding them back.

In the sleepy fishing town of Port Lucia, everyone knows everyone, but Isla Diaz really knows Colby Callahan, with his blue-gray eyes and the tousled brown hair always tucked sexily into his cap. After all, Isla has been crazy about Colby ever since she can remember—even if he treats her like a kid sister. Now, without her best friend, Felicity, around, Isla spots a golden opportunity to take things to the next level . . . or at least wrangle a kiss out of Colby.

By random chance, a tropical storm is headed toward the coast, leaving them stranded together overnight—and there's nothing to do but drink. As the evening wears on, Isla gets the feeling that her not-so-secret crush may finally release her from the friend zone. With her dreams finally coming true, Isla isn't about to pump the brakes, but is this just a one-time thing? What if the next morning, she needs more than Colby's prepared to give?

Little does she know, Colby would like nothing more than a real relationship with Isla. She's always been the one. But there's a very good reason he's been keeping his distance. Someone else loves her too, someone who also means the world to Colby: his brother.

Praise for the novels of Renita Pizzitola

“Brinley and Ryder are the perfect combination of sweet and hot. They'll have you pulling for second chances.”USA Today bestselling author Lisa Desrochers, on Just a Little Crush

“Be prepared to swoon hard over Ryder in Just a Little Crush, Renita Pizzitola's impressive New Adult debut. Brinley and Ryder are drawn together in an almost hypnotic way and I couldn't help but be mesmerized by the utterly sexy, sweet, romantic, and scorching moments between them. I loved it!”—Christina Lee, author of the Between Breaths series, on Just a Little Crush

“In the tradition of new adults everywhere, Felicity and Mason stumble through their new relationship as it transitions from a summer sweetness to autumnal angst . . . [with] charming secondary relationships and [a] beautifully detailed setting.”Publishers Weeklyon Just a Little Kiss

REVIEW

I've become a fan of Pizzitola's books over the first couple in this series.  I have the expectation with New Adult Romance that there will be a fair amount of misunderstandings and whining because that is realistic and typical for anyone in their early 20's.  I had a harder time getting past that in this book than in previous books and it sometimes kept me from staying in the story.  Part of that is because the story was just thin in this book.  The characters were still interesting and the chemistry between Colby and Isla is undeniable, but that is pretty much the story with a few misunderstandings mixed in.  I still enjoyed the book and look forward to reading more by Pizzitola, but this didn't stand-up to her earlier books.

Book Review - Montana Mornings by Kim Law

ABOUT THE BOOK

Gabe Wilde has never been more ready for a change. Thirty-three and in the midst of a divorce, he’s packed up his second-grade daughter and come home to Birch Bay, Montana. New house, new career, new life. Only, with changes come stress. His daughter is struggling with the transition to their new norm—and Gabe is out of ideas as to how to help.
Erica Bird is mired in her own worries. After impulsively leaving the teaching job she loved, she may finally be free from her cheating ex, but separated from her family and everything she’s ever known, second guesses linger. Substitute teaching in Birch Bay is fine for the time being, but what will her future hold?
When Gabe’s daughter winds up in Erica’s class, the two meet—or rather, reunite. Neither has forgotten their college romance or the tender feelings they once shared, but will their complicated pasts destroy their second chance? Or will old desire lead to a new love when each needs it most?

REVIEW

I have been waiting to learn more about Gabe's story since he was first introduced and I was not disappointed.  Kim writes Gabe's character so well.  He is trying to be a good Dad, but he isn't perfect and at times is nowhere close, and that makes him in some ways even more likable.  Erica on the other hand sometimes comes off as a little too perfect but is also exactly what Gabe and Emma need.  This is a well written story about the struggle of a Dad trying to figure out how to be a Dad and help his daughter live in a world with a broken family he isn't able to fix and also a second chance romance.  Fans of Kim Law will love this book and anyone who is looking for a story with heart will want to pick this book up as well.

Book Review - Unexpectedly Hers by Jamie Beck

ABOUT THE BOOK

By day, bashful wallflower Emma Duffy works at her family’s bed-and-breakfast. By night, she secretly pens erotic romance hot enough to melt the snow in their cozy Rockies town.
But Emma’s real life is about to heat up when her mother books the entire inn to a professional snowboarder, hoping the publicity will put them on the map. In a karmic twist of fate, that guest is Wyatt Lawson, the man with whom Emma had shared the secret one-night stand that became the inspiration for her novel and its dreamy hero. Worse, a film crew is documenting his comeback just as her debut is about to hit the shelves. Emma’s only saving grace is that Wyatt doesn’t remember her—and hopefully he never will.
When Wyatt arrives in Sterling Canyon for several weeks of intense training, the last tumble he expects to take is falling for a girl, especially one as shy as Emma. Unlike groupies with their hidden agendas, she isn’t using him—or so he believes…until the film crew uncovers Emma’s pen name and steamy novel.
Wyatt’s comeback run can withstand a fall or two, but can his heart recover from this crash and burn?

REVIEW

I'd describe Unexpectedly Hers as more Women's Lit than Romance.  Sure, there is plenty of good steamy romance packed inside the book, but that discounts the amount of story and self discovery in the book as well, for both Emma and Wyatt.  This story really works in so many ways I can't help but recommend the read  for anyone who is looking for a meaty story, a little romance, and little adventure along the way.

Book Review - It Started with a Kiss by Marina Adair

ABOUT THE BOOK

With a kidney transplant behind her, Avery Adams is determined to channel her inner adventurer and explore everything life has to offer. Only problem is, the closest she’s ever come to a real-life adventure was sixth-grade science camp. So to seize the summer in her rustic Sierra Nevada town, she takes a job as a guide at the local adventure lodge. But Avery doesn’t realize her biggest challenge will register at six-plus feet of rugged good looks and alpha-male charm.
As a member of the Sequoia Elite Mountain Rescue team, Tyson Donovan has made a life out of cheating death and rescuing weekend warriors from the treacherous terrain. “The world is my home” is more than just a motto; it’s what scares off women who would otherwise try to tie him down. When his dad’s health lands the family’s adventure lodge in serious danger of going up in flames, he moves home—and quickly remembers why he left. Until he meets Avery, the irresistible new guide who makes him want to stay.
Tyson gives the inexperienced Avery a lesson in romance that her books could never teach her. And with her undeniable spirit for life, Avery shows Tyson the healing power of love. But with one misstep, everything comes crashing down, and they’ll both have to take the biggest leap of all—into the kind of adventure that lasts a lifetime.

REVIEW

This is the first book in a new series by Adair, one of my favorite go-to authors for touching story.  This book delivers as expected.  Adair has created characters that are real and feel like real people you could be friends with and want to get to know better.  On the love story side, the chemistry is great and doesn't feel rushed and the story is a great balance of romance, family, and friendship.

Book Review - Staying for Good by Catherine Bybee

ABOUT THE BOOK

Zoe Brown may have been voted Most Likely to Never Leave River Bend, but the paper-thin walls and suffocating air of her family’s double-wide trailer were not what she wanted for her life. Other than BFFs Melanie and Jo, the only thing that kept Zoe sane during high school was her boyfriend, Luke.

She didn’t just leave, she escaped—turning her back on the shame of her black-sheep siblings and imprisoned dad. Now a celebrity chef in Dallas, she can afford all the things she never could have growing up. But when she returns to rustic, ruggedly beautiful River Bend, Zoe has to face all that she abandoned—including Luke.

While Luke was a refuge for Zoe in the past, he knows they inhabit totally different worlds now. Anchored by his parents and his job as a mechanic in his father’s shop, Luke never felt the urge to leave River Bend—until Zoe’s return.

But when the two rekindle their old flame, Zoe is forced to make the hardest decision of her life: remain in River Bend and confront her past before it destroys her, or say good-bye to everyone she’s ever loved…again, this time for good.

REVIEW

Bybee does an Amazing job of writing about real life in a way that not only feels real but also by putting her own signature snarky humor and charm on it.  Zoe and Luke are real characters who face real problems that are not easily glossed over or overcome.  Bybee's way of crafting her way through a story and making the struggle feel real and telling it in an emotional way and still making me laugh is why I always put her books at the top of my "to be read" list.  I was not at all disappointed here.  This book is for Second Chance Romance lovers.  This book is for anyone who loves a strong female character.  This book is for anyone who just loves a good story.
