Book Review - Finn (Blue-Collar Billionaires #2) by M. Malone

Finn Marshall survived several tours in Afghanistan before the billionaire father he barely remembers changed everything. Now he has it all: money, cars and most importantly: power.

Power to track down the woman who left him for a richer man.

Marissa Blake dragged herself out of poverty one client at a time, so she's thrilled when her company, Maid-4-U, gets a huge contract for a luxury penthouse. Until she sees who owns it.

Now to save her struggling business, Finn demands everything she once promised him. Money can't buy him happiness but it can buy him one thing:

My patience finally snaps. After working for the past two hours straight, my back is screaming and my feet hurt. I want to smack that grin right off his face, contract be damned.

"You know what, no. You are paying me to clean. You want to trash your own apartment just to get back at me, real mature by the way, that's fine. You want to make me pick up your skanky girlfriend's underwear and show off how many Magnum condoms you've used in the past few days, that's fine too. But I'm not some dog that you can snap your fingers at and expect me to follow. I may work for you but you don't own me."

His eyes burn as he steps forward. "Oh yes I do. I didn't write that contract to buy a cleaning lady. I did it to buy you. For the next six months between the hours of eight and twelve, you are mine."

I'm so frustrated that his harsh words bring tears to my eyes. I hate that I cry when I'm angry. I want to be strong and yell back at him but this kind of fury makes me feel very small. "I am not yours. I'm not anybody’s."

He stalks forward again and I instinctively shrink away. He doesn't seem to notice. He rests his forehead against mine, the harsh rasp of his breath hitting my cheek. When he pulls me closer, I am too stunned to protest.

"You are mine just as much as I am yours. This hold you've had on me has gone on too long. You walked away from me but when you left you took a part of me with you. I haven't been able to sleep without you walking in and out of my dreams. I can't close my eyes without feeling your presence. You're always with me. I can't live like this anymore."

His lips feather over my forehead and the frustration I feel morphs into a different kind of ache altogether. Maybe this is part of his plan, to hold me the way he used to and make me feel all the things that no other man has ever made me feel.

"You want revenge for the way I treated you. I know that. And you won't believe me but I am truly sorry for the way I left things. You deserved so much more than that. So much better than me. It's better if I assign someone else to come here so we don't have to see each other. It's just hurting us both."

He looks down at me. "If you do that I will void the contract and tie you up in court so long you'll go bankrupt just from all the legal fees. Don't push me on this, Rissa. You have no idea how far I'm willing to go."

"Is this really what you want? It's not healthy for you to keep all this anger inside. You have to move on."

"That's just it angel, I can't move on until my heart accepts the true nature of who you are. A girl who could ditch me for a richer guy and not look back. But the only way that'll happen is if I spend time with you. So you are going to go where I need you to go. You are going to talk to me. And I am going to purge you from my fucking system or I'll destroy us both trying."

I enjoyed this story, but felt like Finn was two different characters when he was with Risa and without her. When he was away from her, he was a very likable character, but especially at the beginning he was uncharacteristically a jerk. I realize his heart had been broken before, but none of that part of his personality was present the rest of the time, so it felt contrived.

Everything else about this story was actually really great, so I still recommend reading this book as a second chance romance.

Book Review – I Saw Her Standing There (A Green Mountain Romance Book 3) by Marie Force

There’s a budding romance on Butler Mountain, but in the hornets’ nest known as the Abbott family, keeping a secret is no easy feat…

Colton Abbott and Lucy Mulvaney have a secret. Colton’s nosy siblings have begun to put the pieces together, but it’s not like Lucy to keep things from those closest to her—especially her best friend, Cameron, who recently moved to Vermont to live with her true love, Will. But Lucy isn’t about to tell Cam she’s having a fling…with Will’s brother.

Flitting between New York and Vermont is exhausting, so Lucy is looking forward to a long weekend with Colton at the Abbott family lake house in Burlington. Too bad Will and Cameron have the same idea, and once Colton and Lucy are caught red-handed (and red-faced), will their clandestine romance lose its appeal or will their secret beginnings be the start of something lasting?

Ever since I met Colton Abbott in the first book of this series, I was more than a little bit curious about the man who lives on a mountain with no electricity.  Since nothing is ever easy for characters in Marie Force’s book, he has to fall in love with a woman who is as tied to technology as a person can be.  I enjoyed every moment of watching the story unfold between Colton and Lucy.

This book has everything I’ve come to expect from Marie Force.  I truly laughed, cried, and laughed and cried at the same time through the entire book.  I recommend this (and pretty much anything else written by this author) for anyone who enjoys reading a well written story with great characters.

MATURITY RATING - 18+ a little steamy

The second book, I Want to Hold Your Hand, will be out in June, and the third book, I Saw Her Standing There, is coming in November. Book Review - Give a Little by Kate Perry

Beatrice Summerhill loves risk. She's not afraid to go for what she wants, regardless of anything or anyone standing in her way.

Enter Luca Fiorelli, the "Italian Stallion" racecar driver.

Normally, Bea would have dismissed the preening peacock without a thought, but Luca somehow manages to get under her skin--and her covers. She can't resist him, and she knows he's not good for her, so she shuts him out.

Until he dangles the most tempting carrot in front of her: an irresistible business venture that will take her career to the next level and make her a female Donald Trump. Unfortunately, Luca not only holds the key, but he's taken it for ransom. All Bea needs to do is give a little and close the deal... If she's willing to risk everything--including her heart.

This book, the last in the Summerhill series, wraps up the two stories I’ve been waiting to read through the entire series.  First are Bea and Luca’s, which has been brewing from the beginning and finally came to a very satisfying conclusion.

The second is Rowdy’s story.  His friendship with Viola and her daughter Chloe has built him up to be a very interesting character and am so glad he was able to find his HEA.

Perry just keeps creating new and interesting stories with characters I can’t help but care about and love.  I’ve been reading Kate’s books for a couple of years now and when I finish one of her books I am always left with a feeling of contentment and excitement for life that comes from reading her books.

MATURITY RATING - 18+ a little steamy

Kate has tangoed at midnight with a man in blue furry chaps, dueled with flaming swords in the desert, and strutted on bar tops across the world and back. She’s been kissed under the Eiffel Tower, had her butt pinched in Florence, and been serenaded in New Orleans. But she found Happy Ever After in San Francisco with her Magic Man.

Kate’s the bestselling author of the Laurel Heights Novels, as well as the Family and Love and Guardians of Destiny series. She’s been translated into several languages and is quite proud to say she’s big in Slovenia. All her books are about strong, independent women who just want love.

Most days, you can find Kate in her favorite café, working on her latest novel. Sometimes she’s wearing a tutu. She may or may not have a jeweled dagger strapped to her thigh...

Book Review – Fashioned for Power: Women of power #3 by Kathleen Brooks

Allegra Simpson is the Vice President of Simpson Fashion and she's always handled life like her mother taught her — with manners and a smile. But Allegra learns being nice can get you in trouble as someone haunts her from the shadows and turns her life to one of secrets. She fears she’ll never be able to have a relationship with Finn, because it would put everyone she loves in danger.

Finn Williams had a promising professional baseball career until an injury disrupted everything. But Finn wouldn't let that stop him. He went to law school and started his own sports agency with the support of the Simpson family. The only thing missing was Allegra’s love. The chemistry between the two had been undeniable. But Finn knew there was something that Allegra is holding back from him. He just has to get her to trust him enough to tell him.

The man in the shadows is watching. He’s always watching. He knows Allegra’s every move. He’s been in her house, laid in her bed, and has plans to make her love him. She rejected him, but they are destined for each other. He’s seen her with Finn and knows this new man is no match for him. Soon she’ll come to see they are meant to be. Because if he can’t have her, then no one can.

This book was really all about the characters.  I’ve loved Finn through this entire series, and really enjoyed reading about Finn and Allegra.  The story was a little implausible at times, but the well written characters helped move me through some unbelievable situations.

I recommend this book to anyone who loves quirky romantic comedies.

Book Review - Worth the Wait by Jamie Beck

Thirteen years ago, Vivi LeBrun was sketching a rooster and eating Oreos when she first met—and fell for—her friend’s brother, David St. James. Since then, her love for David has only intensified thanks to years of friendship with his family, who rescued her from a lonely, tumultuous childhood. As she travels to Block Island to vacation with the St. James siblings, Vivi daydreams about reuniting with David, hoping he’ll finally see her as his soul mate.

After his mother’s death, David distanced himself from his siblings, determined to hide a devastating family secret. Now, he’s brought a new girlfriend along to his homecoming—one who’s pushing for a serious commitment. The last thing he needs on his growing list of problems is his budding attraction to Vivi.

With tensions running high, David’s behavior triggers a series of events that might cost him the love he’s always taken for granted and Vivi the only real family she’s ever known.

This book has a great story and well-written characters. In addition to having well written hero and heroine, the secondary characters were also interesting and have me hoping for more books to learn more about them. There is a lot going on in this book, but all of it ties into the main story somehow and helps create interesting and relatable characters.

MATURITY RATING - 18+ a little steamy

In addition to authoring novels, she also pens articles on behalf of a local nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth and strengthening families. Book Review – Tycoon Takedown by Ruth Cardello

Melanie Hanna has finally worked up the courage to travel to New York and tell an old flame that he’s the father of her young son. She’s done hiding and apologizing for her one impulsive night. When her best friend asks her brother to watch over Melanie, her emotional trip takes an unexpected and sizzling detour.

Charles Dery is at the top of his game, but all he can think about is bedding the woman he was asked to protect. When she’s almost killed, he takes what he’d been denying himself and discovers he’ll do anything to keep her—even break his own rules.

When it comes to love, two wrongs may just finally make a right.

This is the second book in the Lone Star Burn series.  I really enjoyed the first book in the series, but I enjoyed this one so much better.  The story is very well done, and while the characters still got their HEA, the story is realistic and has unexpected twists that are more realistic than many books in this genre.   I really enjoyed getting to know Melanie and Charles better, and recommend this to anyone who loves contemporary romance, even if cowboy’s aren’t your thing.

MATURITY RATING - 18+ very steamy

Ruth Cardello was born the youngest of 11 children in a small city in northern Rhode Island. She spent her young adult years moving as far away as she could from her large extended family. She lived in Boston, Paris, Orlando, New York--then came full circle and moved back to Rhode Island. She now happily lives one town over from the one she was born in. For her, family trumped the warmer weather and international scene.

She was an educator for 20 years, the last 11 as a kindergarten teacher. When her school district began cutting jobs, Ruth turned a serious eye toward her second love- writing and has never been happier. When she's not writing, you can find her chasing her children around her small farm, riding her horses, or connecting with her readers online.

Book Review – Strange Bedpersons by Jennifer Crusie

Tess Newhart knows her ex-boyfriend Nick Jamieson isn't the right guy for her. He's caviar and champagne; she's take-out Chinese pot stickers. He's an uptight Republican lawyer; she was raised in a commune. He wants to get ahead in business; she just wants…him. But there's no way Tess will play second fiddle to his job.

Yet somehow she finds herself agreeing to play his fiancée on a weekend business trip that could make or break Nick's career. And while he's trying to convince Tess that he needs her in his respectable world, Tess is doing her best to keep her opinions to herself and her hands off Nick.

I love, love, love Jennifer Crusie’s books. She has a knack for writing flawed, quirky, yet fun characters who find themselves in hilarious situations, but the reader can’t help but love anyway. Tess could easily be one of those characters that is just too flaky to relate to, and Nick could easily be an egotistical jerk that the reader can’t get behind, but Crusie is able to write them in such a way that make them not only likable, but seem compatible.

MATURITY RATING - 18+ a little steamy

Jenny Crusie is the NYT bestselling author of twenty some novels and lots of other stuff. Her latest novel, Maybe This Time, hit shelves in August, 2010.

Jenny lives on the Ohio River where she often stares at the ceiling and counts her blessings.

Book Review - Need You for Keeps by Marina Adair

When it comes to caring for the furry residents of St. Helena, California, groomer and pet rescuer Shay Michaels can handle anything. Humans are another story, though—especially Deputy Jonah Baudouin. He’s the town’s resident superhero: upright, uptight, and jaw-droppingly gorgeous, even when he’s investigating complaints about Shay’s beloved foster animals. And that spells danger for Shay, a free spirit who can’t risk trusting the wrong person again.

Jonah and Shay have been circling each other ever since she came to town, and he’s running out of reasons to not kiss her senseless. But this deputy is a straight shooter with his eye on the sheriff’s badge. He can’t afford to get involved with Shay, a chaos magnet with luscious curves who’s liable to turn his career—and his life—upside down. He enforces laws. She breaks them—repeatedly. Keeping her out of trouble is becoming a full-time job…and it’s one he hopes is never going to end.

The pull between Jonah and Shay had me hooked from the beginning.  Jonah had been introduced in a previous book, but it is not at all necessary to have read previous books to read this one.  Shay seemed almost a little over the top sweet at the beginning, but quickly grew on me as her character developed and I learned more about her.

Anyone who loves a sweet contemporary romance, or has a thing for hot cops and animals, will enjoy this book.

MATURITY RATING - 18+ a little steamy

Marina Adair is a National bestselling author of romance novels. Along with the St. Helena Vineyard series, she is also the author of Tucker's Crossing, part of the Sweet Plains series. She currently lives in a hundred-year-old log cabin, nestled in the majestic redwoods of the Santa Cruz Mountains, with her husband and daughter.

As a writer, Marina is devoted to giving her readers contemporary romance where the towns are small, the personalities large, and the romance explosive.

Book Review - The Trouble with Love by Lauren Layne

As Lauren Layne’s salacious Sex, Love & Stiletto series returns, a jaded columnist discovers a steamy way to get over an old flame: falling for him all over again.

As Stiletto magazine’s authority on all things breakup-and-heartache, Emma Sinclair writes from personal experience. Five years ago, Emma was Charlotte, North Carolina’s darling debutante and a blushing bride-to-be. Now she’s the ice queen of the Manhattan dating scene. Emma left her sultry Southern drawl behind, but not even her closest friends know that with it she left her heart. Now Emma’s latest article forces her to face her demons—namely, the devilishly sexy guy who ditched her at the altar.

After giving up everything for a pro-soccer career, Alex Cassidy watches his dreams crumble as a knee injury sidelines him for good. Now he’s hanging up his cleats and giving journalism a shot. It’s just a coincidence that he happens to pick a job in the same field, and the same city, as his former fiancée . . . right? But when Emma moves in next door, it’s no accident. It’s research. And Alex can’t help wondering what might have been. Unlike the innocent girl he remembers, this Emma is chic, sophisticated, and assertive—and she wants absolutely nothing to do with him. The trouble is, Alex has never wanted her more.

This book is a quick easy read full of snark and humor. I laughed out loud often while reading The Trouble with Love, and really fell in love with both Emma and Cassidy. The base of this plot is that the two main characters didn’t talk to each other, which normally would be a huge turn off for me, but in this case this was actually relevant to the plot and not just a way to keep a couple apart. This second chance love story has been a long time coming and the heat and excitement has been building through the whole series. If you have read any of the previous books, you’ll want to read this book, and if you love a good well written second chance romance, but haven’t read any of the other books, you will still love this one… and probably want to go back and read the earlier ones as well.

MATURITY RATING - 18+ a little steamy
