Book Review - Running Into Love (Fluke My Life Book 1) by Aurora Rose Reynolds - Free on Kindle Unlimited!!

Fawn Callaghan has kissed one too many toads and has finally decided that Prince Charming doesn’t exist. After countless mishaps, mistakes, and unmitigated disasters on the dating scene, she’s decided to give up and move on with her life…solo.

Everything changes, however, after Fawn runs into Levi Fremont, a homicide detective new to New York City.

Dedication to the job has rendered Levi’s love life nonexistent—until he moves in next door to the free-spirited Fawn. After a series of comedic run-ins push them together, will they finally give in to the inevitable and realize—maybe—they are perfect for each other?

This is quick read that is a really well-written story about a whimsical woman who finds herself in one awkward situation after another with her very attractive cop neighbor.  Luckily for her he finds these quirky situations endearing and the sparks begin flying.  This is exactly the kind of romantic comedy I love to read over a weekend to forget about the rest of the world and just enjoy reading someone else's HEA.  Reynolds does a great job of mixing comedy with romance and keeping everything on the right side of the line from being embarrassing for everyone involved.   I look forward to reading more stories by the author and in the series.

MATURITY RATING - 18+ a little steamy

Book Review - Fool Me Once by Catherine Bybee

Cynical divorce attorney Lori Cumberland lives by one motto: Love is grand, but divorce is a hundred grand. With one failed marriage under her own personal belt, Lori had fallen hard and early—and it isn’t something she plans on repeating. She’s content focusing on the temporary marriages of her rich and famous clients. When she joins some of her recent divorcĂ©es on a celebratory cruise, her only vow is fun, sun, and new friends. But Lori finds herself tempted by a jury of one.

For Reed Barlow, falling into the world of private investigation was easy. He knows the law and knows how to avoid breaking it—all while doing his job. His rule to live by? No emotion, no involvement…until Lori. His charming smile and cocky attitude distracts Lori and lowers her guard, which is exactly what Reed desires.

But what appears as a one-time-only flirtation may be a plot orchestrated by Reed. As he’s taking his investigation to a dangerous level, it’s Lori who could end up in jeopardy. Reed has only one shot for Lori to grant him a second chance. But if he comes clean with her, he blows his cover. And that just might cost him the opportunity for an alliance of family…and of love.

A refreshing new direction in the world with the Weekday Brides world.  This could easily be pick-up by new readers who have never read the books in the other series and is a delightful surprise for fans of the Weekday Brides books.  Lori and Reed meet on a Mediterranean cruise with agendas that had nothing to do with meeting someone but fate stepped in and sparks flew and they find themselves in a relationship they weren't expecting surrounded by secrets.  Bybee does a wonderful job of weaving a story that is not predictable and full of humor and emotion.

MATURITY RATING - 18+ a little steamy

Book Review - Untold (A Country Roads Novel) by Shannon Richard

SOMETIMES LOVE HAS A PLAN OF ITS OWN . . . Brie Davis came to Mirabelle, Florida, for one thing: the funeral of her birth mother-a woman she never had a chance to know. Now Brie must sort through her mother's life to get the answers she was denied. She plans to leave as soon as she can . . . except the sexy veterinarian makes Brie's pulse beat faster than she's willing to admit.

Finn Shepherd knows Brie's only in town for a short while, but he can't stay away. Instead he finds himself looking for more reasons to keep her close. Finn's already had his fair share of heartbreak, yet Brie makes him want to take that risk again. Now all Finn has to do is convince her to take a chance on him . . . before she disappears from his life forever.

I love this series so much that it was really hard for me to read this book knowing it was the last one.  Shannon Richards has created a town in Florida with so many characters I have fallen in love with over the last couple of years and it is hard to say goodbye to them.  Of course, she sends us off with a heartbreaking story that had me in tears on its own.  Brie and Finn are so well written that when they get to the inevitable struggle you know is coming, it easy to get caught up in their emotions and understand both of their motivations.   As much as I wanted to draw out the last of the Country Roads series, I wanted these two crazy kids to get their HEA even more and so I finished and now I will patiently wait for whatever Shannon Richards creates next for her readers.

MATURITY RATING - 18+ a little steamy

Shannon Richard grew up in the Panhandle of Florida as the baby sister of two overly protective but loving brothers. She was raised by a more than somewhat eccentric mother, a self-proclaimed vocabularist who showed her how to get lost in a book, and a father who passed on his love for coffee and really loud music. She graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor’s in English literature and still lives in Tallahassee, where she battles everyday life with writing, reading, and a rant every once in a while. Okay, so the rants might happen on a regular basis. She’s still waiting for her Southern, scruffy Mr. Darcy, and in the meantime writes love stories to indulge her overactive imagination. Oh, and she’s a pretty big fan of the whimsy.

Book Review - Shohn by Lori Foster

This Buckhorn man will have to prove his worth to the woman of his dreams—don't miss this fan-favorite novella from New York Times bestselling author Lori Foster, available as a standalone ebook for the first time… Originally published as Buckhorn Ever After in 2013
Ranger Shohn Hudson can't help but notice a few things about Nadine Moest. She's gorgeous, she's smart, she's driven, and… she's apparently not into him. At all. Shohn's used to being chased, so having the one woman who matters resist his charms is not what he signed up for.
The last thing Nadine wants is to be the latest notch on gorgeous Shohn's bedpost. But Shohn is determined to win her trust—nd her heart. Once Nadine learns more about the man underneath his cocky exterior, will she start to crack? Let the battle of wills begin…

Shohn is a sweet short story, but not a lot really happens.  Honestly Shohn is a little hard to like because he's known Nadine he whole life and all of a sudden he is just starting to notice her and the way Nadine just falls over him makes her character a little hard to respect as well.  Perhaps if the story were a little longer and the characters could have been developed more it would have resonated with me better, but as it is there is nothing particularly memorable about the story or the characters.

Book Review - Rising Star (A Shooting Stars Novel Book 1) by Teri Osburn (Free on Kindle Unlimited)

Can love survive the bright lights of fame?
A popular DJ at the hottest station in Nashville, Charley Layton is doing what she’s always wanted to do: living in the heart of country music. Charley puts her career first and relationships second, but when a charismatic stranger in a black cowboy hat invites her back to his place, she decides to give herself one night of no-strings fun.
But Dylan Monroe isn’t a no-strings kind of guy. Charley is beautiful, brainy, and brassy as hell—the kind of girl he’s always wanted. When his record label books him an interview on Charley’s show, he’s determined to find out why he woke up alone, and when he can see her again.
With Dylan now the most eligible bachelor in country music, Charley doubts their fling stands a chance, but she’s willing to try. Dylan dreams of fame, but he also craves a life offstage with Charley. Can he convince her that both of their dreams are worth chasing, and that love is still possible, even in the spotlight?

What a great start to a new series.  I love music but I don't always love stories that involve musicians because often the story ends up very superficial about the industry and how the star can never find someone who loves them for them and not their job.  This book was nothing like that.  The characters were very real and easy to love and relate to.  Dylan and Charley are just two ambitious people who love their jobs and what the do and they meet and have amazing chemistry.  The story naturally unfolds and is paced well as we see how their ambitions and hang-ups with relationships are in conflict with the natural chemistry driving them together.

Book Review - The Real Thing by Melissa Foster (With Rafflecopter giveway)

This sassy, spirited baker is fine with heat—
but is her fake fiancé too hot to handle?

Sugar Lake #1
Melissa Foster
Releasing Sept 5, 2017

Bakery owner Willow Dalton’s friendship with Zane Walker has always been a bit complicated. Now a scrumptiously hot A-list actor, Zane’s always had a reputation as player. He’s arrogant, and he’s definitely not boyfriend material. Sure, he did Willow a favor by agreeing to take her virginity before college, but is that reason enough to go along with a fake engagement a decade later—even if it comes with a real diamond ring?

Zane should have known better. Nothing involving Willow has ever been easy. Still, he knows her better than anyone, and becoming America’s hottest new leading man means cleaning up his reputation. An “engagement” to curvy, sass-mouthed Willow is the perfect PR move . . . provided no one gets hurt.

Now Zane and Willow’s little white lie has turned into an irresistible recipe for sweet temptation. And soon no one will be able to tell the difference between their fake engagement or the real thing—including them.

**THE REAL THING is being published by Montlake (an Amazon imprint) and won’t be available on other ebook retailers, but you can download a FREE ereader app to read it HERE, order the paperback.

Book Review

I have read many of Melissa Foster's other books and this one feels different... in a good way.  I'm a fan of her work, but this story felt more complete and the characters more complex than the Love in Bloom series.  The Real Thing is a little more than just a quick light beach read.  The story is still fast a paced and the tone generally light hearted as I've come to expect from her other books, but I felt more of connection to Willow and Zane than I typically do with characters in her books.  I am really looking forward to this new direction of books and recommend them to anyone who enjoys other Montlake authors like Catherine Bybee and Marina Adair.

Releasing December 5th, 2017

Book Review - Seeing Double by Tamra Baumann (Free on Kindle Unlimited)

Dani Botelli has vowed to step out of her demanding movie star mother’s shadow, and is determined to start a new chapter in her life. But two men are making for double the trouble. There’s Jake, her police detective almost-ex who wasn’t so hot as a husband but sizzles between the sheets. He needs Dani’s intuition and visions to help him solve crimes. Then there’s her high school crush, Michael, a former NFL pro who’s now her mom’s hunky lawyer.

Working alongside Jake, while keeping her special gifts under wraps, is proving to be more dangerous than Dani realized. She needs to stay out of harm’s way—and out of Jake’s arms—long enough to find out if Michael is the one. But will her hard-to-explain hunches be the secret that comes between them?

This story is a modern day screwball comedy.  Dani appears to be a mess and at times is almost difficult to like but Baumann manages to keep her just on the right side of likable even when she does things that make you want to scream at the book.  Michael is a likable single-dad hero that isn't quite perfect himself and Jake, the third part of the triangle, is actually very likable as well.  As expected hijinx ensue, however, Tamra Baumann does a great job of keeping the story flowing and the absurd to somehow seem plausible.

MATURITY RATING - 18+ a little steamy

Tamra Baumann became hooked on writing the day she picked up her first Nora Roberts novel from her favorite bookstore. Since then, she’s dazzled readers of contemporary romance with her own lighthearted love stories. She was the 2012 Golden Heart winner for Contemporary Series Romance, and has also received the Golden Pen Award for Single Title Romance. Born in Monterey, California, she led the nomadic life of a navy brat before finally putting down permanent roots during college. When she’s not attending annual Romance Writers of America meetings, this voracious reader can be found playing tennis, traveling, or scouting reality shows for potential character material. She resides with her real-life characters—a husband of thirty years, two kids, and their allergy-ridden dog—in the sunny Southwest.
