Book Review - Searching for Beautiful by Jennifer Probst

The highly anticipated third novel in the Searching For series from Jennifer Probst, “one of the most exciting breakout novelists” (USA TODAY), featuring a runaway bride and the man who wants to be more than just her best friend…

Genevieve MacKenzie has her life completely under control. About to wed the charming Chief doctor at the local hospital, she’s an up-and-coming surgeon with everything she could ever want. Until an escape through the church window on the day of her wedding sends her life into a tailspin…and flings her right into her best friend’s arms.

When Wolfe catches his best friend falling out a window on her wedding day, he doesn’t ask questions. He whisks her away, determined to watch over her and discover the truth behind her desperate escape. But when his feelings turn more than platonic, he realizes he may risk his most important relationship in order to protect his damaged heart, and the woman he loves.

Can Genevieve and Wolfe’s friendship turn into something deeper—or is it already too late for true love?

I have been waiting for Wolf’s book for forever!  Ever since he was first introduced in the Marriage to a Billionaire series, I’ve wanted to learn more about him, his past, and the man he became.  I was not disappointed at all by Probst, who did a great job writing his story in a believable and relatable way.  Gen is another character previously introduced and it wasn’t a surprise to find her a runaway bride at the beginning of this book.  We’ve seen hints of the friendship between these two before, but seeing it unfold in Searching for Beautiful made the friendship feel real to me.  There are reviews that complain about how slow this book feels, but for me that is what makes the book so great.  The importance of their friendship and what it brings to both of their lives is the main conflict in the book and understanding that importance made it an emotional experience as the characters struggled with their romantic feelings for one another.

Fans of Probst’s work will love this book and her writing just keeps getting better with each book.  I am very glad there is only a month to wait for the next book in this series and can’t wait to read more about Stone and Arilyn.

Bood Review - Worth the Wait by Jamie Beck

Thirteen years ago, Vivi LeBrun was sketching a rooster and eating Oreos when she first met—and fell for—her friend’s brother, David St. James. Since then, her love for David has only intensified thanks to years of friendship with his family, who rescued her from a lonely, tumultuous childhood. As she travels to Block Island to vacation with the St. James siblings, Vivi daydreams about reuniting with David, hoping he’ll finally see her as his soul mate.

After his mother’s death, David distanced himself from his siblings, determined to hide a devastating family secret. Now, he’s brought a new girlfriend along to his homecoming—one who’s pushing for a serious commitment. The last thing he needs on his growing list of problems is his budding attraction to Vivi.

With tensions running high, David’s behavior triggers a series of events that might cost him the love he’s always taken for granted and Vivi the only real family she’s ever known.

This book has a great story and well-written characters. In addition to having well-written hero and heroine, the secondary characters were also interesting and have me hoping for more books to learn more about them. There is a lot going on in this book, but all of it ties into the main story somehow and helps create interesting and relatable characters.

Book Review - Sea Glass Sunrise by Donna Kauffman

In seaside Blueberry Cove, Maine, friends are just another word for family, and big-city politics take a backseat to local pride. But the real treasure on these shores is always love…

When D.C. lawyer Hannah McCrae heads home for her brother’s wedding, she’s dragging a lot of baggage along with her—and she doesn’t mean suitcases. Betrayed personally, and humiliated professionally, the last thing she wants is a new man. That’s fine with square-jawed, rugged contractor Calder Blue. He and Hannah may be wildly attracted to one another, but all he wants is to build the town’s hotly contested new yacht club and mend a centuries-old family feud. Yet thanks to resentments old and new, day after day the pair wind up tangled in each other’s business—and maybe soon in each other’s arms.

I really loved this story and I really loved the characters, but the book moved too slowly. For a light read, it felt like I had to get through chapters and chapters of dialogue before the story progressed. The dialogue was great for character development but slowed down the pace of the story as a whole, which is surprising considering there is a mystery element to the story in addition to the romance.

This was the first book by Kauffman I’ve read, and I would definitely read another book by this author.

She lives in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains in western Virginia, where she is presently applying her crafty DIY skills to decorating her new mountainside abode. Well, when she isn’t busy trying to keep the bears from hanging out in her flower and vegetable garden all day and night! With her new Brides of Blueberry Cove series, Donna’s been having a blast applying those same restoration and design skills to doing some fictional wedding planning. Of course, if that means haunting all those lovely antique shops and flea markets that are so plentiful in her new neck of the woods, well, it’s a sacrifice she’s willing to make. Book Review - The Dangers of Dating a Rebound Vampire by Molly Harper

In the next book in Molly Harper’s beloved Half Moon Hollow paranormal romance series, Gigi starts her first job (at Vampire Headquarters), gets over her first love, and may even fall for her first vampire!

Gigi is no longer an innocent teen. All grown up and looking for love, her family and friends worry she’ll go for the sexy, alluring vampire instead of a nice, safe human. But sexy and alluring, with a penchant for biting, could be just what Gigi wants...

I love Molly Harper’s writing style and the way she incorporates pop culture references throughout her books.  This book was no exception and had me smiling and laughing throughout.  While the romance between Gigi and Nick felt a little rushed, there is so much going on in this book that it is understandable considering everything that needed to happen.  The story was well done and fast paced.

MATURITY RATING - 18+ a little steamy

Molly Harper worked for six years as a reporter and humor columnist for The Paducah Sun. Her reporting duties included covering courts, school board meetings, quilt shows, and once, the arrest of a Florida man who faked his suicide by shark attack and spent the next few months tossing pies at a local pizzeria. Molly lives in western Kentucky with her family.

Book Review - It Had to Be Him by Tamra Baumann

Even though Meg Anderson’s hell-raising days are over, coming home to Anderson Butte isn’t easy, especially when her impossible-to-please dad is the mayor and her do-gooder siblings run the place. But with another job lost and the gorgeous father of her daughter trying to make contact after disappearing three years ago, a break is definitely in order. Hopefully the little town filled with big, juicy secrets can help.
After being off the grid for years, Josh Granger, a man with his own secrets, wants Meg and his daughter back. But first he has to get past townspeople as protective as a pack of rottweilers. He’s not the man Meg thinks he is, but he can’t tell her why…not yet.
As Meg slowly warms to Josh, it’s clear the old spark is still there. But when his secret is exposed—along with Meg’s own shocking revelation—will it tear their family apart again, or bind them forever?

What a great read!  I loved the hero Josh, and enjoyed being able to see the story from both the hero and heroine’s point of view.  I loved that sympathetic Meg was not perfect, and the treatment of her by her family was at least partially due to her own actions.  The romance between Meg and Josh was easy to follow and the book flowed well.  I also enjoyed the secondary characters and look forward to reading their stories as well.

Book Review - Sugar on Top by Marina Adair

She's sassy and sweet

The last thing Glory Mann wants is to become chairman of the Miss Peach Pageant in Sugar, Georgia. Spending months hearing nothing but the clinking of pearls and judgment? No thank you! But when Glory is forced to take the rap for a scandal she didn't commit, the judge sentences her to head the committee. Even worse, her co-chairman is rugged, ripped . . . and barely knows she's alive.

He's ready and willing

Single dad Cal McGraw can't take any more drama in his life. After a difficult divorce, his little girl became a boy-crazy teenager and his hands are full. The last thing he needs is to spend his down time with the town bad girl. Glory is pure trouble-tempting and tantalizing trouble. But he can't deny the strong chemistry between them, or how her touch turns him inside out. Now as squabbles threaten to blow up the contest and the town of Sugar itself, Cal must risk everything on the sexy wild card to get a second chance at love . . .

I had not read the first book in this series, and never felt lost or like I was missing something. I really enjoyed Cal and Glory as a couple and separately as individual characters as well. First and foremost, Cal is a great Father, which is one of the most attractive qualities in a man. He’s such a good Father that sometimes he makes a bad boyfriend, which makes for great conflict. Glory is easy to love too. She isn’t perfect, but she is interesting and caring and it’s easy to relate to someone who is just trying to get by and live her life. Together these two are a great couple and it is easy to understand why they shouldn’t be together but also why it seems almost inevitable.

Book Review - Nova and Quinton: No Regrets by Jessica Sorensen

Today is the first day of Quinton Carter's new life. The toxic guilt of his past left him in pieces-but one girl unexpectedly put him back together. Thanks to Nova Reed, Quinton can finally see the world with clear eyes. She's the reason his heart is still kicking behind the jagged scar on his chest. And he would love to have her in his arms every minute of the day . . . but he's not ready yet.

Playing drums in a band and living with her best friends are just some of the highlights of Nova's life. But the best new development? Talking to Quinton on the phone each night. She wishes she could touch him, kiss him, though she knows he needs time to heal. Yet shocking news is on the way-a reminder of life's dark side-and Nova will need Quinton like he once needed her. Is he strong enough to take the final leap out of his broken past . . . and into Nova's heart?

I had not read the previous books in this series, and while I was able to keep up in the book, I wish I had read the previous books first.   Based on how much I enjoyed the resolution to this story, I am immediately going to go back and read the books that built up to it.  I was actually surprised how much I enjoyed this book because I usually do not like angsty stories.  What I loved about this one is that is felt real.  These college aged kids were living in a world of drugs and more hurt than most people twice their age have had to deal with, but are trying to find a way to beat their pasts.  The progression of the relationship between Nova and Quinton is well done and feels very honest and genuine.  I recommend this book to anyone who loves a well written new adult story.

Book Review - Destined For Power by Kathleen Brooks

Mallory Westin was born into power. But when her family’s quest for more power caused her a broken heart, she turned her back on the only life she ever knew. Now a successful owner of a security firm, she’s determined to forge her own path. But sometimes one’s past isn’t so easy to leave behind. Mallory has to take control of the power she was destined for after discovering her politician father is involved in an assassination plot. Things only get worse as the one man she's always loved becomes a target as well.

Reid Simpson had loved Mallory since they were teenagers. Then one night changed everything as she suddenly broke his heart. For years, he escaped the pain as he built his resort and casino empire. He pushed her from his mind, if not his heart. As Reid encounters increasing danger, he finds that Mallory is the one by his side trying to protect him.

Can Reid and Mallory work together to uncover the assassination plot while avoiding the pain of the past? Or will they discover that love has a way of conquering all?

I cannot say enough good things about this book.  I love the main characters.  I love how she brought in Ahmed from the Bluegrass books.  I love the story and the mystery.   Everything was done well in this book!  Mallory has been a major character throughout the Built for Power books, so it was nice to finally see her story told.  The history between Mallory and Reid made the present day situation work better than many stories that feel rushed.

If you are a fan of books about strong women, a great love story, or just love a great mystery, this book is for you!

Book Review - Home to Me by Ruth Cardello

NY Times & USA Today Bestselling Author

Nick Andrade:
Sexy, charming, bad boy. He’s never been a one woman man, but he’s willing to give it a try every Saturday with Rena.

Rena Sander:
Confident, caring, a woman who plays by the rules. She’s never been in love, and thinks keeping sex with Nick contained to one day a week will protect her heart.

He’s the hot fantasy she’s always craved.
She’s the only woman he’d consider reforming for.

When their relationship is exposed and they must defend it, will these two lovers discover that home is in each other’s arms?

**This is the second book in the series. Make sure you read Gio & Julia's story in "Come Away with Me". Available now for free.

The story was everything I expect from Ruth, and the audiobook was a great execution of the story.  I really enjoyed how the “game” that has been going through the Legacy books is really brought into play in this book and has a bit more time in the story than the previous stories.  I really enjoy the interactions of the female members of the family and its inner circle.

If you love books full of humor and romance and family, you will love this book.

Book Review - Wait for Me / Trust in Me by Samantha Chase

Books #1 and #2 in Samantha Chase's popular Montgomery Brothers series.

Wait for Me

Former NFL superstar Lucas Montgomery is perfectly fine in his self-imposed solitude until sweet, sexy and completely off-limits Emma Taylor comes crashing into his world...

Trust in Me

With a make-or-break business expansion in the works, the last thing Jason Montgomery needs is a hands-on assistant who wants to get her hands on him...

Both of these stories were good stories, but I really get hung up on the POV.  The author hops from one head to another abruptly, and it is distracting from the story itself.  I also didn’t like the fact that pretty much every obstacle in both stories felt contrived.

MATURITY RATING - 18+ a little steamy

New York Times and USA Today Bestseller/contemporary romance writer Samantha Chase released her debut novel, Jordan's Return, in November 2011. Although she waited until she was in her 40's to publish for the first time, writing has been a lifelong passion. Her motivation to take that step was her students: teaching creative writing to elementary age students all the way up through high school and encouraging those students to follow their writing dreams gave Samantha the confidence to take that step as well.

When she's not working on a new story, she spends her time reading contemporary romances, playing way too many games of Scrabble or Solitaire on Facebook and spending time with her husband of 25 years and their two sons in North Carolina.

Book Review - Ripple of Secrets: Rose Gardner Mystery Novella #6.5 by Denise Grover Swank

Rose Gardner Mystery Novella #6.5 in the New York Times and USA Today bestselling series.

After her assistant DA boyfriend’s near brush with death, Rose Gardner hopes to make it through the holiday season with a minimal amount of drama. But she can’t forget the promise she made to the king of the Fenton County underworld in exchange for Mason’s life. What’s worse, she’s not the only one keeping secrets—Mason has been working on a hush-hush case in his private time, Joe is grappling with the sudden reappearance of his sister after a mysterious two-year disappearance, and Hilary continues in her single-minded quest to secure a commitment from Joe at any cost—for motives only she understands.

Though peace and quiet is all Rose wants, it’s the last thing she’s liable to get. And the ripple of secrets in her life threatens to create an undertow that will endanger her and everyone she holds dear.

Includes POVs from Joe, Mason, Hilary, and Skeeter.

This is probably my favorite book in the series so far, and while it is a novella, it really sets up a lot of story lines going forward.  For the first time we get to see Hilary’s point of view and a rare view from Skeeter Malcom’s point of view.  Swank does a great job of remembering that every character is the hero of their own story, and just because they appear to be antagonists to the main story, it doesn’t mean they are all bad.  After reading this, I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

MATURITY RATING - 18+ a little steamy

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Denise Grover Swank was born in Kansas City, Missouri and lived in the area until she was nineteen. Then she became a nomadic gypsy, living in five cities, four states and ten houses over the course of ten years before she moved back to her roots. She speaks English and smattering of Spanish and Chinese which she learned through an intensive Nick Jr. immersion period. Her hobbies include witty Facebook comments (in own her mind) and dancing in her kitchen with her children. (Quite badly if you believe her offspring.) Hidden talents include the gift of justification and the ability to drink massive amounts of caffeine and still fall asleep within two minutes. Her lack of the sense of smell allows her to perform many unspeakable tasks. She has six children and hasn't lost her sanity. Or so she leads you to believe.
