Book Review - Fake Wife by Stacey Lynn

ABOUT THE BOOK

This marriage is strictly business . . . until the temptation gets way too real.

Corbin: I loved my grandma, but I don’t need her money. All I care about is keeping the house—the only place that’s ever felt like home. That, and screwing over my dad, who wants to turn the property into a mall. There’s only one catch: To receive my inheritance, I have to get married within six months. Me, the guy who’s never dated a girl for more than six minutes. Now I need to find a woman I can trust. So when I’m rear-ended by a Prius, I figure it’s a sign that I’m supposed to meet gorgeous, down-to-earth Teagan Monroe.

Teagan: First I lose my job. Then I come home and find out—in the most graphic way possible . . . yeah, that way—that my boyfriend is a cheating jerk. And then I speed off and nearly kill Portland’s sexiest bachelor. Corbin Lane should be pissed. Instead, he offers me more money than I’ve ever seen in my life to marry him and live together in a mansion for two years. No sex. No feelings. Just cash—enough to make all my dreams come true. Then we go and break all our rules . . . and I realize I’m falling in love with my fake fiancĂ©.

REVIEW

The story is well done here, but I really struggled to get through the writing.  A story that should have flowed easily was difficult to sit and read more than a chapter or two without taking a break or getting distracted.  It was the first book by this author that I've read and I'll probably give her another chance because she can tell a good story with good characters and hopefully find an editor that can help smooth out the actual writing.

Book Review - Hot Seal Bride by Lynn Raye Harris

ABOUT THE BOOK

A new standalone romance from New York Times Bestselling Author Lynn Raye Harris. Sexy, action-packed, and thrilling!

Sold to the highest bidder…

For the past fourteen years, Princess Antonella Rossi has been a virtual prisoner. She has no friends, no fun, and she’s not allowed to leave her aunt and uncle’s Virginia compound without an escort.

But today is her wedding day. A rich sheikh has bought her virginity, and with it her freedom. Any hope of independence Ella’s ever cherished will disappear the instant she faces him across the altar. With time running out and the wedding party gathering, Ella seizes the opportunity to run as far and fast as she can.

Navy SEAL Cash “Money” McQuaid isn’t looking for trouble, but trouble always seems to find him. This time trouble is five foot four and wearing a wedding dress. Rescuing a runaway princess has consequences though, and with his face plastered on the evening news and his career on the line, he realizes there’s only one way out of this mess—he has to marry her!

It’s a marriage in name only, just until he can clear his name and win Ella the freedom she seeks. But shacking up with a gorgeous virgin isn’t as easy as it seems, especially when the sparks snapping between them are hotter and more dangerous than anything Cash has ever experienced. By the time he realizes it’s too late to resist his virgin bride, an unseen enemy is intent on taking her away from him.

Cash is gonna need all his skills—and his friends on the Hostile Operations Team—in order to rescue his princess bride and give her the happily-ever-after she deserves.

The Hostile Operations Team is a covert military Black Ops unit. Their motto is Where None Dare. H.O.T. operators come from all branches of the military. The only criteria for membership: they must be the best of the best!

REVIEW

Every time review I do for Lynn Raye Harris's books I feel like I say this but I have no idea how she comes-up with so many new and unique stories for these guys and have them not feel contrived.  This time it is Cash's chance to fall.  This time it is for a virgin princess who has literally been held prisoner by her Aunt and Uncle and is a run away bride from an arranged marriage.  Sound a bit implausible?  Somehow Harris makes this feel real and actually draws attention to human trafficking that actually does occur and how it can happen right under our noses.  The chemistry between the two is high and the story flows easily.  It was great seeing so much of Gina and Jack again too, but doesn't feel like a forced cameo that would make a new reader feel left out.  This was another great story by Lynn and I recommend for any fans of her books or stories with alpha military men.

Book Review - Deadly Summer by Denise Grover Swank

ABOUT THE BOOK

Ten years ago, Summer Butler was television’s most popular teenage sleuth. Since then, she’s hit—what gossip sites just love to call—the gutter. Nearly bankrupt, betrayed, estranged from her greedy mother, and just about unemployable, she’s coaxed into that desperate haven for has-beens: reality TV.

Winging it as a faux PI, she’ll solve off-the-cuff mysteries in her hometown of Sweet Briar, Alabama. For added drama, there’s police chief Luke Montgomery, inconveniently Summer’s first and only love.

It’s when Summer stumbles upon a very real corpse that Darling Investigations takes an unexpected twist. The growing list of suspects is a big draw to viewers, but the reality is that Summer doesn’t know whom she can trust. Someone has written this killer new scene especially for her, and unless Summer gives the role everything she’s got, it could be her last…

REVIEW

Denise Grover Swank sticks to a formula that has worked well for her in the past.  Mystery, check.  Strong female sleuth who finds herself in dangerous situations, check.  Fun smart sidekick, check.  Love interest in law enforcement, check.  But it works.  And if it ain't broke, don't fix it.  If you are a fan of Swank's you'll enjoy this fun story.  If you like a good mystery with spunky characters, you'll love this story too.

Book Review - Bayside Passions by Melissa Foster

Warm up the winter nights with this HOT new romance!

BAYSIDE PASSIONS
Bayside Summers #2
Melissa Foster
Releasing January 10, 2018
World Literary Press

When Emery Andrews’s best friend, Desiree, moves away, falls in love, and opens an inn all in one summer, she feels her absence like a missing limb. Until she visits over the holidays and meets sinfully hot Dean Masters, who’s as easy on the eyes as he is to talk to. After returning home, what starts as a flurry of late-night flirtations quickly turns into a deep connection and unexpected friendship. Now, months later, Desiree offers Emery a job teaching yoga at the inn. Adventurous Emery jumps at the chance and heads for Wellfleet, Massachusetts, to reunite with her BFF and her new close friend, Dean.

After months of sharing their lives, and their secrets, over video chats and phone calls, Dean’s ready to move things to the next level. The fact that Emery seems oblivious to the sparks between them and has recently put her foot down about dating friends just means he’ll have to bide his time.

When Emery finds a naked man in her kitchen the first morning she’s there, Dean doesn’t hesitate to move her into his guest room. Maybe now Emery will see what’s right before her eyes–although that guy she’s got a date with might be a problem.

Review

This is a refreshing take on the friends-to-lovers story.  Dean is very much an alpha male that is in the unusual role of chasing after the girl he's in love with.  Everyone has a friend like Emery, who is flirty and oblivious to how her actions affect the men around her.  The interactions between this pair are hot from the beginning and Melissa Foster manages to turn up the heat before a single kiss even occurs.  If you are looking for a light and fun romance, this book is for you, and fans of Melissa Foster will find the same heartwarming and charming characters they've come to expect and love.

Book Review - Infraction by Rachel Van Dyken

ABOUT THE BOOK

New York Times bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken proves that everyone scores to win. But off the field, a fumble can change the entire game.
Pro footballer Miller Quinton would do anything for his best friend and teammate—including “fake dating” his friend’s sister. What no one knows is that seven months ago in Vegas, Miller and Kinsey did a whole lot more than just kiss. Miller knows that this cheerleader is off-limits to him and any guy on the team. Still, he can’t stop himself.
Kinsey’s whole world is on the verge of crumbling. Her dad has cancer. Her overprotective brother is falling apart. Dating Miller may be a fake-out, but he’s the one guy who can make her forget about everything—including all the reasons she stayed away from football players. With each heated moment, Miller feels more like a safe place…even though he’s not safe at all.
Now temptation is testing every rule in the game of love. But how long can they go on playing when winning is a harder goal than either of them imagined?

REVIEW

I absolutely love Rachel Van Dyken and her quirky fun characters.  This book picks up with the previous book in the series, Fraternize, left off.  This is definitely part of a series and I highly recommend reading the previous book first.  Miller is instantly the protagonist of the story, having been previously rooting somewhat for him in the previous book, it's easy to want this sexy football player to find his HEA.  The chemistry between Miller and Kinsey is undeniable.  There is an element of forbidden romance due to Kinsey's overprotective family and Miller risking the relationship with his teammate by being with her.  You don't need to be a football fan to enjoy this story or this series and as always Van Dyken hits it out of the park with this one.

Book Review - The Bachelor Contract by Rachel Van Dyken

ABOUT THE BOOK

A second-chance romance from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Bet, Matchmaker and Elite series!

She's everywhere.

Ex-wife.

Love of his life.

The last person in the world he wanted to see...ever.

And now that he's working beside her every day, he can't escape her. Her scent, glimpses of her smile, even the tension in the air that makes his body hum with the kind of need he'd only experienced with one person-all of it is driving him over the edge.

Brant Wellington was certain of three things:

Alcohol wasn't going to solve this.

He really was losing his F-ing mind.

And his gorgeous ex-wife was going to be the death of him.

Don't miss the other books in the Bachelors of Arizona series:

The Bachelor Auction

The Playboy Bachelor

REVIEW

This series has been a great read and this installment turned out to be the best of three books.
Brant is the ultimate man-child complete with irresponsible recreational habits and playboy ways.  The previous books in the series have shown hints of a man that is more than that and his character development in this book is well executed to make him likable, becoming a true hero in the story.  A series that usually keeps things like, there are emotional and sometimes almost heartbreaking moments between Brant and Nikki.  If you enjoy romantic comedies with heart this book is for you.
