Book Review - Anything But Love by Abigail Strom - Free on Kindle Unlimited!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Socialite Jessica Bullock can’t catch a break. After a lifetime of chasing perfection, hoping to please her parents, all her hard work is set to pay off. But on her wedding day, her fiancĂ© leaves her high and dry. Humiliated, she finds her calm, cool facade beginning to crumble…until an unexpected wedding guest, her childhood best friend and crush, offers to help her pick up the pieces.
Never in his wildest dreams would Ben Taggart have imagined he’d be escorting Jessica on her honeymoon to Bermuda. Although they haven’t seen each other in years, he can’t leave her to fall apart. Agreeing to keep things platonic, they vow to make the most of their spontaneous vacation—until an unplanned kiss sparks a powerful passion.
They tell themselves that what happens in Bermuda will stay in Bermuda. But when old secrets are revealed and new feelings ignite, will Ben and Jessica be able to leave their romance behind?

REVIEW

This is a sweet friends-to-lovers story.  Jessica isn't the easiest heroine to identify with, but Ben is a very down to earth hero and seeing Jess through his eyes makes her easier to relate to and like.  This is an easy and quick read and the pace of the story is perfect to set-up the love story.  I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a friends-to-lovers story or a good story about a woman finding herself again.

Book Review - Yours and Mine by Lacey Silks

ABOUT THE BOOK

A new standalone novel by six-time USA Today bestselling author Lacey Silks

We share the same birthday and breathe the same air.

My best friend Nick, lives next door and our windows are only a foot apart.

I know him better than he knows himself, but I can't tell him that because well, he's a boy... that is, until he grows up and becomes a man.

A strong, handsome and persuasive man I would die for.

He is the first person I see each morning, and the last person I see when I go to sleep at night.

My life is his and his is mine and everything would have been perfect if he didn't choose to leave.

REVIEW

This is an easy read, but not what I would consider a beach read.  Lacey Silks takes you on an emotional ride throughout this story.  One of my favorite types of romances is where friendship grows into more.  As I began this book, I thought it was going to be a predictable boy meets girl, boy and girl fall for each other, something happens to keep them apart, and finally boy gets girl.  This book was much more complicated than that.  Each unexpected turn kept me wanting to read more, and I’m not going to lie, a tear or two may  have been shed as I went.

Rachel

Rachel thought love would last forever…right up until her divorce. As Mom's wedding day draws near and her ex begs for a second chance, she's forced to acknowledge some uncomfortable truths about why her marriage failed, and decide if she'll let pride stand in the way of her own happily-ever-after.

REVIEW

As always, Mallery does a great job in creating interesting characters and portraying family dynamics.  This is a story about a dysfunctional family of a Single Mom and her adult children.  Each are in various different points of romantic relationships and how the family history and current dynamics affect each of these relationships.  None of the characters are perfect, but they all are interesting and engaging, if not always likable.  Mallery does a wonderful job of depicting real life in a realistic way, while still providing the HEA for each character that is expected for this genre.  This story is one of my favorites I have read of Mallery's in a long time.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Susan Mallery is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of books about the relationships that define women's lives—romance, friendship, family. With compassion and humor, Susan keenly observes how people think and feel, in stories that take readers on an emotional journey. Sometimes heartbreaking, often funny, and always uplifting, Susan's books have spent more than 200 weeks on the USA Today bestsellers list, thanks to her ever growing legions of fans.

Critics, too, have heaped praise on "the new queen of romantic fiction." (Walmart) Booklist says, "Romance novels don't get much better than Mallery's expert blend of emotional nuance, humor, and superb storytelling," and RT Book Reviews puts her "in a class by herself!"

Although Susan majored in Accounting, she never worked as an accountant because she was published straight out of college with two books the same month, January of 1992. Sixteen prolific years and seventy-four books later, she hit the New York Times bestsellers list for the first time with Accidentally Yours in 2008. She made many appearances in the Top 10 before (finally) hitting #1 in 2015 with Thrill Me, the twentieth book in her most popular series, the Fool's Gold romances, and the fourth of five books released that year.

Susan lives in Seattle with her husband, two ragdoll cats, and a tattletale toy poodle. Her heart for animals has led Susan to become an active supporter of the Seattle Humane Society. Animals play a big role in her books, as well, as she believes they're an integral component to a happy life. Visit Susan online at www.SusanMallery.com.

Book Review - Cuff Me by Lauren Layne

ABOUT THE BOOK

ARRESTED BY LOVE

Vincent Moretti is one of the NYPD's top homicide detectives-and one of the most eligible bachelors in town. His family, however, thinks he should date his longtime partner, Jill-a sassy, sexy, smart-mouthed blonde who drives him absolutely crazy.

Behind the quiet authority, tough-guy demeanor, and dark aviator glasses lies a man with a big soul-and a hard body that can soften any girl's heart. After years as his coworker, Jill Henley has given up hope that anything could happen between her and Vin. Besides, loving him would break all the rules. But seeing Jill with someone else triggers feelings in Vincent he never knew he had. Now he'll have to stop playing good cop/bad cop-and find a way to convince her to be his partner for life. . .

REVIEW

I'll admit it.  I've pretty much fallen in love with all of the Moretti brothers over the past three books.  I've been eagerly looking forward to this installment with Vincent and Jill, who have been supporting characters in the previous books.  The sparks have been flying for months and this book picks up just after Jill has been gone for months caring for her Mother in Florida... with a fiance.  Once they each finally realize their feelings for each other is when the story really gets good.  Layne does a great job capturing the dynamic shift in their relationship as they try and figure out how to keep things "normal" once they each realize on their own that there is more than friendly feelings between them.  The story is written well and the mystery is almost as compelling and was not at all expected.  I recommend this book for anyone who loves a good cop romance, romantic comedy, or friends become lovers story.

REVIEW

I actually went into this book with fairly low expectations.  I was sure this was going to be more in the erotic genre than romance, and my expectations are relatively low when it comes to erotic romance.  That combined with its short length, I was sure it would just be a fluffy filler book.  I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was a well-developed story with interesting characters.  I shouldn't have been surprised, having read other books I enjoyed by this author before.  King is more than just a cranky rich guy and Olivia is more than a stripper with a heart of gold.  Somehow Malone manages to develop the characters and story in a short space and even leave me wondering about the secondary character of Bennett and hoping I'll be seeing him again sometime.
