Book Review Blackjack and Moonlight by Magdalen Braden

ABOUT THE BOOK A super-sexy judge has to declare his love for the lawyer of his dreams before he’s even met her. Jack “Blackjack” McIntyre, Philly’s superhero judge, meets his match when Elise Carroll appears. Trouble is, she’s a lawyer in his courtroom. Stating his feelings for the court record isn’t the way to start a relationship… particularly with a woman who thinks “love at first sight” is as real as the tooth fairy. Elise wants nothing to do with Blackjack’s potent charm and alleged romantic feelings. Still, men leave when they’ve gotten what they want… and they all want sex. So she offers to skip the candlelit dinners and go straight upstairs to unwrap him like a birthday present. Jack and Elise negotiate a deal—they’ll alternate his romantic dates with her “sex only” dates. The contract works… until both of them get more than they bargained for. As Jack puts it, “falling in love isn’t for the faint of heart!” Can two legal eagles make this relationship work? REVIE...

Book Review - Compromising Positions by Mary Whitney

Image
ABOUT THE BOOK We weren’t supposed to be friends. We weren’t even supposed to like each other. I’m Michael Grath. I’ll admit I was elected to Congress on my Republican family history. I was out to make a name for myself, until I met Jessie Clark, a spitfire Democrat. She’d be my nemesis, if I could just stop thinking about her. We’ve got nothing and everything in common, and one big issue that divides us. All of this is going to land us in more than one compromising position. And like I said, we weren’t supposed to be friends, we weren’t even supposed to like each other, and we certainly weren’t supposed to fall in love. REVIEW I loved this book and really enjoyed reading it. I loved how she took characters that could have been caricatures, and turned them into real people who struggle with real issues. Michael isn’t just a Catholic Republican and Jessie is more than a liberal democrat. The debates between these characters show that all issues both personal and political...

ABOUT THE BOOK Riley McKenna knows sex—good sex, bad sex, kinky sex…Her articles in Stiletto magazine are consistently the publication’s most scandalous—and the most read. But Riley has a secret…all that sexy talk? Not an ounce of it comes from personal experience. Her own bedroom escapades are more limited than even her best friends know. When her editor requests that all columnists write something more personal for Stiletto’s anniversary issue, Riley turns to the one man she’s always been able to count on and calls in the favor of a lifetime. Sam Compton would do anything for Riley McKenna. Anything except be her experimental sex toy. He refuses her request. At least until she tells him that it’ll either be him or she’ll go to someone else. And that, Sam can’t accept. After ten years of writing about sex, actually doi...

Book Review - The Cinderella Deal by Jennifer Crusie

Image
ABOUT THE BOOK Daisy Flattery is a free spirit with a soft spot for strays and a weakness for a good story. Why else would she agree to the outrageous charade offered by her buttoned-down workaholic neighbor, Linc Blaise? The history professor needs to have a fiancée in order to capture his dream job, and Daisy is game to play the role. But something funny happens on their way to the altar that changes everything. Now, with the midnight hour approaching, will Daisy lose her prince, or will opposites not only attract but live happily ever after? REVIEW Daisy and Linc’s story is on the surface just another fluffy sweet romantic story. But Jennifer Crusie makes it so much more. The character growth of these characters is well done, and when it seems like the character growth has almost gone TOO far, it is acknowledged by the characters and pulled back in. The humor is crafted into the story to make it more of a lighthearted romantic comedy than a sappy romance novel. OVER...

Book Review - Moonlight on My Mind by Jennifer McQuiston

ABOUT THE BOOK To ruin a man's life once takes a regrettable mistake. To do so twice takes a woman like Julianne Baxter. Eleven months ago, Julianne's statement to the authorities wrongly implicated Patrick, the new Earl of Haversham, in his older brother's death. The chit is as much trouble as her red hair suggests, and just as captivating. Now she has impetuously tracked him to the wilds of Scotland, insisting that he return home to face a murder charge and save his family from ruin. A clandestine wedding may be the only way to save her reputation—and his neck from the hangman's noose. Julianne has no objection to the match. More and more she's convinced of Patrick's innocence, though when it comes to igniting her passions, the man is all too guilty. And if they can only clear his name, a marriage made in haste could bring about the most extraordinary pleasure . . . REVIEW I have enjoyed every book in this series, but this one is my favorite. Book Review - Falling Into You by Jasinda Wilder

Image
ABOUT THE BOOK I wasn't always in love with Colton Calloway; I was in love with his younger brother, Kyle, first. Kyle was my first one true love, my first in every way. Then, one stormy August night, he died, and the person I was died with him. Colton didn't teach me how to live. He didn't heal the pain. He didn't make it okay. He taught me how to hurt, how to not be okay, and, eventually, how to let go. REVIEW This is one of the most emotional experiences with a book I have had in a long time.  The author breaks all the rules I expect in a romance, and does it incredibly.  My heart was broken over and over in this book, but somehow Jasinda Wilder managed to put it back together for me by the end of this incredible journey. This book is a mix of New Adult and Contemporary Romance.  It is amazingly well written.  The weakest part of the book is the plotting, but the characters and story more than make-up for a few plot holes and pacing issues. OVER...
