Cover Reveal - The Light of the World by Randi Black

Title: The Light of the World
Author: Randi Black
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance 18+
Publication Date: June 27, 2014
Cover Designer: Regina ~ Mae I Design
Event Organized By: Literati Author Services, Inc.

Synopsis

It was 1995 in the Southern California wasteland. I was barely legal and far from innocent. I loved the Gun Club more than I loved Walter, my high school sweetheart. He was the only person who knew why I stopped singing and playing guitar after what happened to me when I was 16. But even an engagement ring couldn’t save us after what he did to me that one afternoon. I used to worry that college would come between us, but I never thought it would happen on move-in day. That was the day I met Franz : a tall, handsome 23-year-old ex-jock from Germany. He was so not my type, but the more I got to know him, the more I knew he was the right guy for me. And after Walter betrayed me for the last time, it was time for me to break up with him and be with Franz for good. I never thought he’d be a safe place for me to explore my darkest sexual fantasies. Nor that he’d be a kindred spirit who knew exactly what it felt like when someone ridiculed your musical aspirations. We gonna start playing music together and be who were meant to be. Nothing and no one was gonna stop us. Not even Walter. Note: This is the standalone sequel to Miss World, which was self-published in 2011, and takes place a month later.

Book Review - When We Met (Fool's Gold #13) by Susan Mallery

ABOUT THE BOOK

Angel Whittaker earned his scars the hard way, but the scars that can't be seen are the ones that haunt him the most. Since he moved to Fool's Gold, California, he's cobbled together a life for himself as a bodyguard trainer. If he's not exactly happy, at least his heart is safe.

Working with pro-football superstars taught tough-talking PR woman Taryn Crawford one thing—she can go toe to toe with any man. But then dark, dangerous former Special Ops Angel targets her for seduction…and challenges her to resist his tempting kisses.

Even in four-inch heels, Taryn never backs down. Unless, somehow, Angel can convince her that surrender might feel even better than victory.

REVIEW

Taryn and Angel are both characters that had previously been introduced in the series, and made a fun pair to read about. Their flirty interactions were hot. The action scenes were well written.

I really enjoyed seeing how big city girl Taryn fit in with small town life, still keeping her designer life and fitting in with the town at the same time. I expected her to be the “Mom” of the boys, but soon it became clear she was more the boss.

Angel was also refreshing because he was ex-military, but his emotional hang-up wasn’t from serving rather than from his wife and son dying. It is easy for writers to always assume ex-military would have PSTD and use that as a writing device, when real people are more complicated than that.

Cover Reveal - Impulsion by Jamie Magee

Horsies12

Excerpt
His fingertips slowly moved down her face, down her neck. He noticed how all the tension in her body drifted away, how her eyes slowly closed, the long, deep breaths that were causing her chest to rise and fall.
“The sight of you brought it all back, past and present colliding with a magnitude that is so great…that I have no choice but to stop and realize that the only thing holding us back this go ‘round is us.”
He reached his arm around her waist and pulled her body against his, causing her eyes to fly open, those breaths to come even faster. “And Harley, I’m going to fight like hell for you. And as soon as I make you mine again, I will die before I ever let anyone take you from me again.” His hand rose to her face, his thumb grazed her flesh, his eyes dipped to her lips, then met her gaze once more. “You’re the only woman I have ever loved. That I ever will love.”
All at once, they both moved forward, their lips connecting as if they were molded from one source, a well-practiced dance of flesh, the perfect rhythm, teasing brushes of tongues that knew just when to fall into a deeper kiss, a kiss that was so devouring that all thought, all reason vanished. The impulse of the heart, that deep passion that lies dormant within erupted to a euphoria that made it impossible to fathom life outside of that very instant.

Book Review - Searching for Perfect by Jennifer Probst

ABOUT THE BOOK

The up-and-coming matchmaking agency Kinnections is the hottest thing to hit Verily, New York—just like Kennedy Ashe, social director for the service she owns with her two best girlfriends. A coach, consultant, and cheerleader rolled into one super-sizzling package, Kennedy creates dream dates, encourages singles to shine, and never refuses a challenge—not even Nate Ellison Raymond Dunkle, rocket scientist, nerd extraordinaire, and Kennedy’s newest client.

Kennedy vows to work her magic and transform this hot mess in a lab coat with a disastrous relationship track record into the most wanted man on the Verily dating scene. If only she could turn the wand on herself . . .

Though she radiates confidence and sex appeal, Kennedy harbors deep-seated insecurities from a tormented past and lifelong struggle with weight issues. When she realizes she and Nate are cut from the same cloth and might be perfect together, can Kennedy learn to let her heart lead the way? Or will her fears sentence her to the sidelines as Nate finds love—with someone else?

REVIEW

Nate and Kennedy seem like polar opposites, but we soon figure out they have a lot more in common than appears at first glance.

Nate’s make-over was fun to read about, even though I’m not sure he’d have gone along with everything that was asked of him. Nate’s dry wit kept the book entertaining as he navigated a chaotic world with his very analytic mind.

The sex scenes are hot, and clearly Nate’s analytic mind and research pays off big time.

I don’t always get the relationship between Nate and his brother Connor, but hopefully he’ll be getting his own makeover soon!

"Legal Briefs is equal parts sexy and funny. N.M. Silber is becoming my go to author when I want to laugh and swoon at the same time." Sawyer Bennett, USA Today bestselling author of the Legal Affairs serial.

NOTICE: This book contains explicit descriptions of sexual situations and adult language. It is intended for readers over the age of 18.

REVIEW

First off, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this author!

Legal Briefs is a fun and humorous read.  N.M. Silber continues to do a delightful job weaving humor in with a great story and fun characters.  The chemistry between the characters had been building in the previous book in this series, but exploded in this one.

Lily isn’t as crazy as Gabrielle, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t humorous scenes with crazy characters.  The people who live in Lily’s building are amusing but crazy and lead to some great interactions.

I can’t wait to read more in this series and more from this author.

ISBN: 978-0-553-39035-3

About the book:

Lauren Layne’s heart-wrenching novel tells the story of a girl with secrets, a guy with scars, and a love that could save them both . . . or destroy them.

When Olivia Middleton abandons the glamour of Park Avenue for a remote, coastal town in Maine, everyone assumes she’s being the kind do-gooder she’s always been. But Olivia has a secret: helping an injured war veteran reenter society isn’t about charity—it’s about penance. Only, Olivia’s client isn’t the grateful elderly man she’s expecting. Instead, he’s a brooding twenty-four-year-old who has no intention of being Olivia’s path to redemption . . . and whose smoldering gaze and forbidden touch might be her undoing.

Paul Langdon doesn’t need a mirror to show him he’s no longer the hotshot quarterback he was before the war. He knows he’s ugly—inside and out. He’ll do anything to stay in self-imposed exile, even accept his father’s ultimatum that Paul tolerate the newest caretaker for three months or lose his inheritance. But Paul doesn’t count on the beautiful twenty-two-year-old who makes him long for things that he can never have. And the more she slips past his defenses, the more keeping his distance is impossible.

Now Paul and Olivia have to decide: Will they help each other heal? Or are they forever broken?

** Teaser Reveal!**

Olivia squirms. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"I've never known a female to acquiesce that easily without a catch. How about you hit me with it now and get it over with?”

Olivia shrugs. "Fine. I was going to say that I won't run alone, if you promise to go with me."

"No," I say, almost before she's finished her sentence.

"Why not?"

I rap my cane once against the ground. "Well, for starters, despite the fact that there are tortoises that could surpass your sorry excuse for a jog, I'm in no shape to accompany even the most pathetic of runners."

"What a handy skill you have of overloading a sentence with insults," she says as she reaches up to adjust her ponytail. "That must be helpful what with your thriving social life and all."

I thump my cane against the ground again, studying her. "Must be nice, picking on the cripple."

Olivia rolls her eyes. "Please. Your soul's more crippled than your leg."

She has no idea how right she is, and I have no intention of letting her anywhere close enough to find out. I've gotten good at shutting people out by pushing them away . . . being as nasty as possible until they reach their breaking point. But with her? It's different.

Excerpted from GOOD GIRLS DON’T DATE ROCK STARS by Codi Gary

How many glasses of champagne did I have last night? Gemma Carlson groaned, gritting her teeth against the stabbing pain that seemed to be spreading through her brain. She didn’t want to open her eyes, afraid of what she would find. Right now she was only sure of two things. One, her head hurt like a son of a bitch and two, she was very, very naked. Prying open her right eye, she tried to focus on her surroundings, but instead of seeing intricate, golden wallpaper, she found the walls were now light colored. A couch sat in the corner of the room, though her room had had a tiny office chair and desk. The landscape on the wall was new, too. She opened both eyes, blinking rapidly at the dryness, and realized she had no idea where she was. Which meant she obviously wasn’t in her hotel room. A light snore behind her caught her attention and she stiffened, turning her head slowly to look at her bedmate. She sucked in a breath at the sight of dark curls and a broad back, the only things visible above the heavy comforter. What have I done? Sitting up, she swallowed down the rolling nausea and fought the splitting headache, catching her face in her hands. And then she felt it. Something cool and metal on her finger. Something that definitely shouldn’t be there. Pulling her hands back, she stared at the large three-stone diamond ring on her left index finger and froze.

Book Review - Just One Night by Lauren Layne

ABOUT THE BOOK

Riley McKenna knows sex—good sex, bad sex, kinky sex…Her articles in Stiletto magazine are consistently the publication’s most scandalous—and the most read. But Riley has a secret…all that sexy talk? Not an ounce of it comes from personal experience. Her own bedroom escapades are more limited than even her best friends know. When her editor requests that all columnists write something more personal for Stiletto’s anniversary issue, Riley turns to the one man she’s always been able to count on and calls in the favor of a lifetime.

Sam Compton would do anything for Riley McKenna. Anything except be her experimental sex toy. He refuses her request. At least until she tells him that it’ll either be him or she’ll go to someone else. And that, Sam can’t accept. Reluctantly he agrees to her terms—one night of completely meaningless sex in the name of research. Riley thinks she’s prepared for what awaits her in Sam’s bed. After ten years of writing about sex, actually doing it shouldn’t be that different, right? So wrong. What starts as “one time only” becomes “just one more time.” And then one more. And before they know it, Riley and Sam learn first-hand that when it comes to love, there’s no such thing as just one night

REVIEW

The idea behind this book, the sex columnist that is practically a virgin, is great! She pulls off the girl who has been attracted to her older brother’s best friend since she was a teenager trop wonderfully. This read was packed with feels and I really ended up caring about these characters. This is the first book in the series that I have read, and I will definitely be going back and reading the others now. It was easy to follow as a stand-alone though.

Book Review - All I Need is You by M. Malone

ABOUT THE BOOK

ALL I NEED IS YOU is the fourth book in M. Malone's USA TODAYbestselling contemporary romance series: The Alexanders.

He'll do whatever it takes to protect her. What he won't do...
is fall in love...

Kaylee Wilhelm is tired of always being a good, respectful Southern belle. So when the man she loves leaves town after their steamy kiss, she's done. As a single mother with a demanding singing career, she has no time for pining after her former bodyguard.

Years ago Elliott Alexander disappeared for a year and then came back irrevocably changed. With the FBI still watching, he can't afford distractions. Especially not sweet kisses from the only woman who gets under his skin.

When she's targeted by a stalker who seems to know her every move, Eli is the only one who can protect her. He'll have to stop running from his past and face his demons.

And maybe, just maybe, find his way back home again.

WARNING: This book contains best friends with attitude, blind dates, the reckless use of explosives and a hero that gives new meaning to the term "in the closet". Did I mention this is a really sexy book? Just saying...

REVIEW

This is the first book in this series that I have read, and I think it works as a stand-alone book. There was obviously a history between Eli and Kay, but that is explained well within the book and it is easy to catch-up.

I found the romance cute, but a little bit contrived but the mystery was well plotted. I was personally distracted by things like how she was paying her rent and how she was paying her bills while they were in hiding and she was obviously not working. I think that was partly because the plot moved slowly and my mind was wondering, but in part because those are things that a single mother would be worrying about.

Blog Tour - Falling for Bentley by Shawnte Borris

Synopsis:

Just when Bentley Knight thought life was only about football and women, a Hail Mary pass comes at him, changing everything.

Forced to grow up faster than he wants, Bentley struggles with the responsibility of being a good example to his younger brother, on and off the football field, and pleasing his frustrated, demanding father. Just when he reaches his limit of complications, in walks a beautiful blond angel, endangering the delicate balance he’s finally found in his new life.

When mistakes of his past threaten to derail his future, will Bentley be man enough to win the heart of the girl he once ridiculed in high school, who just happens to be the woman of his dreams?

Review

I like Haley and Bentley as a couple, but I felt like the story was rushed.  Bentley was a pretty big jerk to Hayley in high school, and I felt like he had a lot to make up for beyond just saying he was sorry and batting his eyes at her.  Since this is part of a series of books about this couple, I feel even more strongly that more time could have been spent with him doing more to make it seem like he deserved Bentley.  That said, I was engaged enough in the book that I do want to see what happens next and will certainly be reading the next book when it is available.

I did really enjoy the secondary characters, and hope to see more of them in future books.

One eye barely open, glanced around the room, desperate for it to stop spinning. There’s a faint moan beside me, and when I carefully turned my head towards it, I saw brunette hair splayed across the pillow and down the back of a naked chick. My eyes slowly move down to the small of her backmy favorite part of a woman’s body.

I stopped when I recognized the Celtic tattoo and quickly lifted the sheet to see if I had my briefs on, I did. I slowly sat up to look for any evidence of last night’s shit show. No condom…no wrapper, thank God.  Lube and a vibrator? What the hell?
“What are you doing?” giggled Amanda as her cold claws rubbed my back. I tried to straighten out of her grip. “Baby relax, let’s finish what we started last night,” She whispered in my ear before kissing the side of my neck.
Did we?”
“No, you passed out before the party really got started. I had to use my vibrator to finish the job.”
“Uh, sorry about that.” I pulled her hands off me.
“Why don’t you make it up to me, Bentley? Like the good ol days, back in high school. I miss this.” she growled, grabbing my dick.

I shot out of the bed and scrambled for my pants.
“Where are you going?” Amanda grabbed my shirt and threw it over herself.
“I...ah…I need to go.” I stuttered, trying to put my shoes on without falling flat on my face.
“Bentley.” Amanda whined, throwing my shirt at me.
Bang-Bang-Bang, “Bentley get your ass up. We gotta go.” Curtis yelled.
“Thank Christ.” I mumbled under my breath as I pulled my shirt over my head.

“That’s it? Youre going to leave me like this, wet and wanting you? Needing you to fill me?” moaned Amanda.
“Sorry, Amanda, but I gotta go. Curtis and I already made plans.”  I opened the door and looked at my best friend.
“Bentley Knight before you walk out that door, you better think long and hard. There will not be a third time.”
“There shouldn’t have been a second,” toss over my shoulder and ducked just intime to miss a glass as it shattered on the wall in front of me. I closed the door and looked over to Curtis, laughing his ass off. “Let’s get the fuck out of here.”

Blog Tour and Review - Forever your Heart by Mary Whiney

ABOUT THE BOOK
I’m a journalist—Adam Kincaid, BBC reporter, to be exact, so I’m not going to bury the lead. I’m about to see the woman I never got over.

I know that because I’ve been back in America for years now, and I still don’t date American girls. My dad would say I’ve come to my senses, sticking to my own British patrician kind, but that’s crap. Mum, the psychologist, would more wisely say it’s my unresolved issues around Nicki. My teenage years are long behind me, yet my guilt over her remains. So I’ve avoided all things Nicki, though the irony is she’s the one avoiding me.

Maybe if we see each other, we can both move on. Could she ever forgive me? Can you forgive yourself when you hurt someone you love?

But please, don’t answer yet. I’ve jumped ahead of the story, and as a reporter, I should give you more background to get to the root of it all.

So let me tell you my story. Then you can be the judge.

NOTE: While this is the third in the series, it can be read as a standalone book

EXCERPT

By the time we reached my room, though, the bed had become obsolete. We kissed along the way, and I couldn’t get our clothes off fast enough. When Nicki was naked, I had to listen to her usual nonsense about her body. Women will never learn that men are simply happy that they’re naked. After I told Nicki she wasn’t allowed to criticize a body I loved, she rewarded me with a forceful kiss. I grabbed her bum, and she kissed me again with a giggle before jumping up and wrapping her legs around me.
She was so close to me that it made the head of my dick feel like there was a homing device in it. The position must’ve unleashed something similar in her as well. She asked with a smile, “Shall we stand?”
Feeling her wetness against me, I practically hissed, “Why yes, thank you,” and my lips met hers for another kiss. As our tongues tangled, it struck me that I now had a far more verbal partner in Nicki than before. I wondered what I could say that would be…inspirational. Sadly, I knew my limitations. I wasn’t like my cad cousin. I was far too proper and reserved to talk dirty. So I decided to say exactly what I wanted. “Put me inside of you.”

The direct approach seemed to be just as good for her because she gasped, “God, yes.”

REVIEW

This is the first book by Mary Whitney that I have read, and I am in love!  I was ready to download everything she has ever written before I had even finished this book.  Her way with words and crafting story and making the reader feel was a special experience I do not often find.

Adam Kincaid is a complicated human and an imperfect man navigating through his relationship with Nicki as well as his parents.   His humor is refreshing and made me laugh out loud more than once while I was reading.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Mary Whitney blames Laura Ingalls Wilder and Margaret Mitchell for her obsession with romance novels. At an early age, Mary fell in love with the Little House series and its dreamy hero, Almanzo Wilder, who only wanted Laura to be Laura. Like many women, Mary later graduated to the ultimate, tall and dark bad boy, Rhett Butler, who loved Scarlett despite her flaws.

Mary has lived around the U.S., and after a first career in the non-profit world and politics, she's settled in Northern California with her husband and daughters. She spends her days writing characters she hopes somehow capture the romance of Rhett and Scarlett and Almanzo and Laura. She's a firm believer in what Rhett says to Scarlett: "You should be kissed, and often, and by someone who knows how.

Book Review - The Cinderella Deal by Jennifer Crusie

ABOUT THE BOOK

Daisy Flattery is a free spirit with a soft spot for strays and a weakness for a good story. Why else would she agree to the outrageous charade offered by her buttoned-down workaholic neighbor, Linc Blaise? The history professor needs to have a fiancée in order to capture his dream job, and Daisy is game to play the role. But something funny happens on their way to the altar that changes everything. Now, with the midnight hour approaching, will Daisy lose her prince, or will opposites not only attract but live happily ever after?

REVIEW

Daisy and Linc’s story is on the surface just another fluffy sweet romantic story. But Jennifer Crusie makes it so much more. The character growth of these characters is well done, and when it seems like the character growth has almost gone TOO far, it is acknowledged by the characters and pulled back in. The humor is crafted into the story to make it more of a lighthearted romantic comedy than a sappy romance novel.

Book Review - Moonlight on My Mind by Jennifer McQuiston

ABOUT THE BOOK

To ruin a man's life once takes a regrettable mistake. To do so twice takes a woman like Julianne Baxter.

Eleven months ago, Julianne's statement to the authorities wrongly implicated Patrick, the new Earl of Haversham, in his older brother's death. The chit is as much trouble as her red hair suggests, and just as captivating. Now she has impetuously tracked him to the wilds of Scotland, insisting that he return home to face a murder charge and save his family from ruin. A clandestine wedding may be the only way to save her reputation—and his neck from the hangman's noose.

Julianne has no objection to the match. More and more she's convinced of Patrick's innocence, though when it comes to igniting her passions, the man is all too guilty. And if they can only clear his name, a marriage made in haste could bring about the most extraordinary pleasure . . .

REVIEW

I have enjoyed every book in this series, but this one is my favorite. I had been curious since the first book about Patrick’s secret and was not let down with his story. The mystery is well done and interesting. The characters are smart and likable. The language is magical. I am truly taken back in time and feel like I am there with Julianne and Patrick.

Book Review - Taken With You by Shannon Stacey

ABOUT THE BOOK

Hailey Genest has seen most of her friends marry and have babies, and she's happy for them, but it was a lot easier before she hit forty. She's spent her entire life in Whitford, Maine, and if she hasn't found her Prince Charming by now, she has to accept she's probably not going to. When a new friend suggests they go on an adventure and embrace being single, Hailey agrees.

Surviving in the woods is game warden Matt Barnett's idea of a relaxing vacation. But when he meets two women in need of help, he leads them back to safety - a task that proves more fun than expected, thanks to a certain hot blonde. He can't resist pushing her buttons, even though she's made it clear that the rugged, outdoorsy type just isn't for her.

Hailey is glad to see the back of her tempting-tour-guide-slash-pain-in-the-ass. When he shows up in her life again, she's determined to avoid him, no matter how good he looks in his uniform. But that's easier said than done in Whitford, especially when he's renting the house right next door..

REVIEW

Fun love story I’ve come to expect with this series. I loved getting a closer peek at what a small town lawyer’s life is like, and Shannon Stacey does an amazing job of getting into her characters heads so that the reader is able to feel what they are feeling and understand their actions. Matt and Hailey have a lot of very real obstacles to overcome, and none of them are contrived. Real life happens, and it was fun and interesting to read how they overcame it.

There are some laugh out loud moments, and a few honestly heart wrenching moments as well.
